(if that is where the story is coming from) traditionally utilize marching bands in the processional.

These were workers, bringing their tools to get the job done, with a little verve and style. They weren't being stoics in the face of certain death. In any case, why P2A would find it "sad", I have no idea.

But then I thought: maybe they were trying to make noise to draw attention to themselves, to recruit volunteers -- they were a group of clean-up crew, with chainsaws and tools, ready to go to work -- dunno who exactly they were, if official or volunteers

I believe somewhere in Mississippi--a bunch of guys with chainsaws and drums marching up and then back down the street. Kind of spooky-- a complete non sequitur.
