They're Getting Ready To Sack Someone
People keep saying that nothing will be done everytime a scandal hits this administration.

But there will be a "straw that broke the camel's back."

I'm afraid the Wilson affair is too big to just be swept under the rug. Somebody's going to get sacrificed for this one.

Now they're talking about whether administration officials will be confronted with lie detector tests when they go to work tomorrow.

Anybody want to take a guess at who gets sacked?

HE was the big yellowcake fraudster and spent lots of time at the CIA intimidating them into allowing the junta to lie about the war. Now, with no WMD and Iraq in the toilet, the junta is blaming the CIA.

They will not allow this to stand.

Cheney's ass is grass.

3. You know, now that I think about it, the scandal gives them
plenty of options don't it. They can pretty much ditch whoever they want or need to.

I think they may hold on to Condi for a while. She's worth a bigger scandal I think. They can pin 9-11 on her if they have to.

Is there anyone working there who does not have a big name with the public. They will have to get someone higher than a janitor, but lower than the well-known characters.

5. I don't know if one person would do it.
I think that both Libby and Rove were involved. Rove is not going to fall on his sword. If it's Libby, which I think it is, that still leaves someone else. The WP article said that a senior WH official said TWO people were making calls. They can't have two resignations because that's a CONSPIRACY.

This WH is known for hunkering down and never admitting they are wrong. I say they'll try and stick it out for a while and hope it goes away.

60. That's my bet
Mr. Undisclosed Location probably isn't interested in a second term (drooling to get more of the Halliburton stock options), so having him resign with a big 'ol mea culpa at this time would make sense. The cancer is off the presidency and the election is still twelve months away.

10. I'll take a guess..
These criminals are quite good at what they do. I think they will offer up a low-level wannabe, much like what is done in the Mafia:

From WaPo:

Speaking about the probe for the first time yesterday afternoon in Chicago, Bush called the investigation "a good thing" and said he has told his administration "to be fully cooperative." "There's just too many leaks, and if there is a leak out of my administration, I want to know who it is," the president said. "If the person has violated law, the person will be taken care of. And so I welcome the investigation."

A Freudian slip - "taken care of"

This is a term used when a wannabe takes the fall for a made member. If you take the rap the family will "take care of" you and yours, and you will have a place in the family on your return.

Watch for a low level hack to take full responsibility, ending the investigation, and then watch that hack's career go skyrocketing.

Just an opinion, worth exactly what you paid for it.

19. I mentioned "taken care of" as a maybe Freudian slip here 2 days ago,
and some folks didn't grasp the irony...I meant it to imply they might be "protected", as in "I'll take care of my mom"...

So in a way, it's almost a -double- Freudian slip. Whatever the hell that is...

As in "if there was a leak, the person will be taken care of." Bush said it and I noted two other Pugs saying it. (Don't remember which ones. Might have been Saxby Chambliss for one.) I thought it was very odd phrasing each time I heard it.

30. If a low-level hack takes the fall
Bush* will have to explain why that person had access to information about CIA agents involved in covert operations ... and how that person managed to contact at least 6 reporters without any high-level official knowing about it.

I don't doubt they're setting up a fall guy, I just don't think they can get away with dumping it on a nobody because then the question becomes "How secure are we if the White House doesn't even know who is accessing and distributing sensitive, national security information?"

Besides, they pissed off the CIA big time and those who mess with the CIA always pay.

32. It would be difficult
I think to set up a low level fall guy, or really two fall guys. If it is true that 6 other reporters know their identities, and if we can assume that at least one of them has integrity. Those reporters can't say who their source is, but surely they can say who there source isn't, if it isn't one of the dudes the White House says it is.

Secondly, if they set up two low level folks they also have to then explain how they BOTH know this information. Maybe they are preparing for that already with the "lots of people in Washington knew" spin but it'll still be difficult I think.

31. Which, if it's true, is wonderful because it catches both bush and rove
in a bald-faced lie - one I think may have been on-camera (?) - At any rate I think they're probably gonna hunker down and hope they can ride all this out. But the adversary they're facing is the CIA. An ANGRY, scorned, and scapegoated CIA. Besides, no one's going to come forward willingly. They'd have to face potential treason charges, and 10 years in the slammer. Rove is probably not interested, nor is Scooter Libby, (assuming they're the guilty ones).

They'll probably reason that, because they've had the media in their pockets for so long, and they've gotten away with so much else, that this is just another small bump in the road that they'll get over quickly. Only problem is, this is serious. This is no stains-on-a-blue-dress affair.

51. One Problem With Ari
Why would the Press Secretary know the names of undercover CIA operatives? Why was national security information being discussed in an open forum where people without "need to know" were present? How many other national security issues are this loosely controlled in the WH?

Blaming the "liar" would create as many questions as it answers.

18. Who will it be?
Obviously, we have at least six journalists who know the exact identity of the Leak. In addition, that person probably has someone else telling him or her what to do.

I think that the Leak was condoned by the entire administration, even moreso than Nixon was involved in Watergate. Bush should go.

But he won't. I don't think that an undersecretary will take the blame. I think that they will insist that they investigated and that there was nothing out of the ordinary. (Nothing to see here, folks!)

However, that would probably not sit well with the CIA or the agents whose lives are gambled away for political retribution. I don't know what would happen, if Bushco let it be known that they will attack family members of agents and risk their identities.

47. It's already known to be SENIOR White House officials that leaked
this info on Plame in July, in fact by shopping it to six other journalists besides Novak they spray painted it all over rather than leaked it! The minute the story broke in July, Plame's cover was compromised, and national security was breeched, the COVER UP started. The fact that a crime had taken place was known at that point, and this White House took no action.

So now approx 80 days later there is no where to pass it off - they are stuck with it. It appears now the leaks came from Rove and the other from Cheneys camp - probably Scooter Libby. And yeah, Bush knows.

I think they are going to go down, including bush eventually. They fucked the CIA and that's a pretty stupid thing to do - they get even.

34. It has to be Rove or Cheney/Scooter
They can't take a scapegoat on this one. Rove and Cheney are up to their asses in alligators, although Scooter may have done some of the dirty work for Cheney so he could go first. But Cheney is gonna go eventually.

They are gonna fight like dogs first though and dig themselves in deeper. They're already over 2 months into COVER UP mode, they can't pin that on anyone down the food chain.

Why would anyone say Condi? I don't see her involved in the dirty part of this. She must know something though cause her performance was very unconvincing over the weekend and made her look foolish.

There's NO WAY anyone in THAT White House is going to take a lie detector test. Not going to happen.

This seems to be unfolding fast on it's own in the media. There's no sense in stepping in front of a perfectly good train wreck.

Anyway, the question is not who will get fired, but who is most likely to volunteer. This is a good time for certain people to get out before the election train hits full speed.

I can see Rove leaving to focus on the campaign, leaving Wolfowitz to mind the shop.
Although Cheney signed up for a second term, he is probably dying to go back to Halliburton. Considering that it would be "controversial" for him to do so anytime soon after departing his Department, sacrificing Scooter (who is already named as the man behind door #2) will give him a chance to resign without damaging Bush's image or his own.
Cheney hasn't been performing too well recently, with his Meet the Press blunder and all. He seems to be a bit out of control. Replacing him with (hmm....Powels?) might do wonders for the ratings.

Yea, I put my money on Cheney/Libby.

59. Not Rice. . .
After all, the Dubya administration will not want to appear
"discriminatory."

I think that Rove (isn't he leaving anyway?) will conveniently
be thrown to the wolves for this one. But Cheney SHOULD get the axe too (he won't).

lie detector tests are bullshit. Just read the report by the National Research Council... They make it sound like it's an extreme measure... The polygraph is BS... If people pass it means nothing. If people fail it means nothing... So? People at that level, probably already KNOW that the main purpose of a lie detection test is the hope that somebody is going to crack and confess (under the fear that they would be caught)... -CV
