The MSM is even whoring up the Hurricane
I am reading headline after headline, "Bush cuts short his vacation"

Not one news item mentions it was only by one day though.

IMHO, he should of cut short his vacation as soon as he learned the Hurricane was heading New Orleans's way.

2. After the hurricane
Will be the whoricane. The biggest reconstruction/salvage job in history will be the corporate media's effort to rehabilitate Bush's "let them eat cake" reputation. Sad but true.

4. I haven't yet heard the Corporate cable news shows
mention the Bush cuts in emergency services and the fact that our National Guard is not available due to Bush's war.

7. CNN had a rundown of each state affected by Katrina,
showing the percentage of NG soldiers in the US. All states were above 45%, so the military claims the US is covered.

8. I just saw that, and came here to amend my post.
It was said that we have enough to handle things. I hope that's true.

I think the reservists themselves will let us know at some point.

13. ... because he hopes they are gullible.
Catfish and grits are a mighty cheap way to show that he's just a good old boy!

10. Random rant
I would just like to add something about the media. The day before yesterday, the news was in full fear mode about Katrina (and rightly so). Yesterday, they were all frothing at the mouth telling us how the hurricane wasn't so bad and to not worry. Now, we can all see that these fawning media people were dead wrong....again!

The fact is...the media companies do a piss poor job of reporting to the news to the point where everything is simply opinion and speculation. This argument falls true for the war in Iraq, the effect of the tax cuts, the wasting of our infrastructure, and just about every issue I can think of. The media is simply wrong and no more valuable than your crazy uncle (who may even be a better source at this point).

One day, people will divest themselves of relying on the corporate media for information (it's already beginning). This horrific event is just another reminder that what you see on television is a load of crap most of the time. DU is a better source for news, and as much as I love this place, that is not how it should be.

11. Here in the immediate aftermath
It's not surprising that the media are talking up everything they can for the support of the people affected by the hurricane and the people rushing down there to help in any way they can.

At least they got off that stupid talking point that this was somehow not as bad as expected.

But in the days to come, I would really like to see some analysis of what went right, what went wrong, and a few whys in regard to both. That would, of course, not make the corrupt Bush administration look very good or competent, but maybe it will take a catastrophe like this for media lapdogs to make an honest assessment. Something good should come out of this.
