Plame was involved in preparing materials for Cheney's pre-war CIA visits
Small world, eh?

<snip>
In Washington, Plame was assigned to the CIA's Non-Proliferation Center, an organization of analysts, technical experts and former field operatives who work on detecting and, if possible, preventing foreign proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

Vice President Cheney and his chief of staff, Lewis "Scooter" Libby, met with officials at the Non-Proliferation Center before the invasion of Iraq to discuss reports that Iraq was seeking to buy uranium in Africa. A U.S. official with knowledge of those meetings said Plame did not attend. But the former U.S. intelligence official said she was involved in preparing materials for those meetings.

1. Huh
I wonder, could Nigergate and Leakgate be joined at the hip?

3. without Nigergate there wouldn't have been a Leakgate
if Wilson hadn't discredited the Niger intelligence nobody would've had a reason to try to discredot Wilson (or his wife).

5. The question is....
How could this administration NOT know the importance of Plame's work.

9. Funny you should ask. Here's a DU thread on that very question.

6. So that's how Cheney & "Scooter" knew
...she was an operative. Or at least that's the pretty clear implication....

12. If you could prove the leakers knew she was covert it may be huge
A bunch of talking heads on the cable shows have said you have to prove the leakers knew she was covert, otherwise they would probably
get off the hook.

8. Yet Woolsey claims he's never heard of her (I done seen him say so...)
Edited on Wed Oct-01-03 09:51 PM by PurityOfEssence
Since he's a full-time enabler for this mob, regardless of how involved with Clinton he was, that sounds like yet more bullshit. He WAS director of the CIA, lest we forget.

The point, you ask? Well, if he was head of the damned agency and very involved in the intelligence briefings during the run up to the Kleptokrieg (just minted that one; like it?) he's either 1) oblivious and derelict in his duties since she was working for him through his tenure, 2) a liar of the first order in service to the Junta, or 3) further proof that Ms. Plame wasn't "common knowledge" in the Washington circles.

Novak's claim that "outing" her wasn't such a big deal, since it was common knowledge around town that she was an operative falls flat if the head of the agency doesn't even know about her.

This little scandal should also disgrace Woolsey for lying to the public in the media. He needs to make some whopper-sized excusifying but quick.

Maybe we can bag the lot of 'em...

and Rove just blew the entire organization,
just as NK is getting ready to put them on the market.
Good job Karl!

We knew they'd have to LIHOP something even bigger than 9/11...

14. Thanks for adding it
I think what Larry Johnson said tonight ties directly with this information. The CIA is playing the Bush Crime Family brilliantly, and proving Cheney & Libby knew Plame was very involved with WMD intelligence.

And welcome to DU MiniMoog :hi:

16. Compartmentalization?
Information in that agency is on a need-to-know basis and all information is compartmentalized, meaning that information isn't passed freely from one agency to another. There is no reason the Director would know the names of operatives or even analysts supplying the information.

15. Why this implicates Dick & "Scooter"--further thoughts
Novakula's current line--remember?--is that a) her being in CIA was "common knowledge," and b) "she was just an analyst."

This applies more to b) than to a), but they're related: if Cheney and Scooter were reading briefs with her name on 'em, yet she wasn't high-level enough to be in the meetings, their impression would be that she was a) "just" an analyst, not undercover; and possibly b) just one of the crew over there, no big deal to name her.

Think the "leakers" are still talking to Novakula? Hm?
