It's a terrible tragedy, but I'm getting a little tired of hearing
it compared to the Boxing Day Tsunami (which killed an estimated 150,000 people) and Hiroshima which killed 66,000 the first day and thousands more in the ensuing days and years and which was caused by deliberate bombing and not a natural disaster.

2. perhaps there is no "comparison"
but since most of us aren't living in or with the destruction the folks affected by Katrina are, let's try and look past the poor choice of comparisons.

3. Everybody wants in on the "as bad as" game....
People who are/were at neither event make comparisons based on what they can see from inside their sphincters.

Pay them no attention. We can all see how bad it is. As time goes by, we will see even more. :(

6. I agree, the comparison stuff is a short cut for the lazy and untalented.
Just report WHAT'S RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU, please.

It's like the cliches about "cars tossed like toys and houses splintered like toothpicks."

And comparing what nature does versus what humans do is just way off the scale of relevance.

5. Man made and natural catastrophic events just come to mind
when thinking of Katrina's destruction. Maybe not the same, but painful nonetheless :(
