On Sunday Night....a woman with a child that appeared to be about 3
said she was going to wait out the storm with her husband and child on a docked shrimping boat. This was on CNN. For 2 days now, I haven't been able to get that baby girl's face out of my mind. When you see the devastation, how could a little shrimping boat docked aside the Gulf have possibly made it?

11. Under a bridge in a canal in Houma, LA, lashed to about 5 other boats
(all shrimp boats)side by side. They'd lost their home the last time and they lost it again this time but they saved their boat and their means of income. The little girl was precious.

7. Others have posted that they made it
Another poster explained that it's not such a bad place to be when land will be hit. I wouldn't do it but supposedly this is common in boating communities.

14. They were out in the wetlands away from trees and flying objects.
They got a lot of wind, I'm sure, but they were far away from any storm surge.

12. I saw the follow-up - they survived with flying colors.
The boat turned out to be sturdier than a building! It wasn't a dinky shrimp boat, but a very heavy steel boat.

She said they got tossed about a bit, but that her daughter slept through most of it. It's been said many times, but man, kids really can sleep anywhere!

15. wow, that was interesting
I can kind of see the logic - it's already floating so safe from flood and lots of "give" for the wind instead of having to stand up to it rigidly like a building, but I'm with you, MrsGrumpy and others I would have been appalled and very worried had I seen the earlier news report.

Kind of an interesting lesson in local knowlege and public perception.
