1. Use the reg grade. My brother in law, a Chrysler employee talked

2. Down the road
it's still $2.50 and in another part of the town it's $2.60. I'm glad I'm not over there.

12. Seriously though, his job is working with gasoline grades and their
affects on engines...and it makes no difference in all the testing they have done. Good engines are good engines and bad are bad. I'm just saying...and we've saved a heckuva lot of money and have one 20 year old truck with 300 thousand miles on it to prove it. It's all in the oil change. :hi:

8. I paid 2.64 for middle grade yesterday. I drove by the
same gas station today, and it jumped to 2.81.

Fuck you, Bush.

10. This is not an option for most high compression or turbocharged engines.
They require high octane to prevent detonation and engine damage.

I don't study fuels, but I have plenty of experience with performance automobiles and there are sound reasons for needing high octane in those applications. Newer engines with proper electronic management function with lower octane fuel but run on reduced horsepower (boost is automatically lowered on turbos, etc) as a fallback setting.

This means that the engine may not suffer detonation or damage or even knock or ping, but you won't be getting the power you paid for and ostensibly want from your engine.

Older cars aren't so forgiving, as knock sensors are much more crude once you get more than 10 or so years old. If they feature a particularly high compression ratio or are heavily boosted with a turbo or supercharger, detonation will damage the engine internals eventually, esp. under hard use.

I've actually *seen* this happen in front of my eyes and held the broken parts in my hands, so you can consider it visually verified and 100% accurate.

Now if your car *doesn't* need super, then don't bother. There's no benefit to running super in an engine not designed for it. That, I think everyone can agree, is a waste of money.

23. Not so much the case anymore...
most modern engines are controlled by computers that will change the timing to accommodate lower octane fuel. You'll get lower mileage than you would with premium, but it's not enough to offset the lower cost of regular.

5. There will never be enough hurricanes to satisfy the energy industry.
These are men who smack their lips and rub their hands whenever an oil disruption occurs. It's money directly in their pockets and they say as much to anyone who asks. Charming.

Naked greed, and no situation is better than taking advantage of people unable to prevent it.. "I dream of selling water to people stumbling out of the desert" I recall one saying during the rolling blackouts in California. These are the types of people that run the industry (and the White House, for that matter).

18. It jumped FORTY CENTS
at the same gas station in 5 HOURS. I passed by the station at 4 PM and it was $2.79 (yesterday was $2.69). My daughter just passed the same station now at 9 PM and it was $3.19.

If this isn't PRICE GOUGING, I don't know what is.
