For Davis to win, Bustamante must endorse him and quit the race...
Edited on Wed Oct-01-03 09:58 PM by TruthIsAll
Make it a pure Davis vs. Arnie race. This will fire up all the Dems and enable Davis to get 50%.

Otherwise, some Hispanics will be disposed to vote for the recall in the hope that they will get Busta in through the back door.

I bet this is why you have not heard much from Davis and Busta the last few days. They may be brainstorming this right now. If you believe the polls, Arnie is a lock if things stay as they are..

Davis has a better chance of getting 50% with Busta out than if he stays in.

My two cents..

1. I don't see how that will improve things for Davis at all

BTW, this could be all over and we would definately have a Dem Governor if Davis would abducate to Bustumante. If Davis would quit the recall would be off. Arnold would be nowhere.

2. Are you sure? I thought it was too late for that...

Again, with Busta in, many Hispanics will want their guy in. This can happen only if Gray loses, so they would be tempted to vote for the recall.

Busta quitting the race removes that temptation..

5. CL is wrong!!!!!! Davis
bowing out now will not help at all. I agree with you that our best effort is to say no to the recall.

8. Why wouldn't it help?
If Davis can call of the recall be quiting it would make it impossible for Arnold or an other republican to have the governorship?

3. I disagree
The republicans would love that. Because that would INSURE an Arnold victory if more than 50% vote to recall Davis. With Bustamante in, there's still a chance (albeit slightly) that he could beat Arnold IF the recall goes through. Besides, Bustamante has been very upfront about his stance AGAINST this recall. He is there as a backup only. We need him there. Getting out would do NOTHING for Davis.

4. My 2 cents
First off all, Bustamente has already said he opposes the recall. I'm not sure how many voters actually BELIEVE him, but he's certainly said it before. So "endorsing" Davis at this point would be a phony gesture.

Second off all, Bustamente's name is going to remain on the ballot regardless. Dropping out would simply be an admission that he can't beat Arnold. If anything, that would depress turnout of Bustamente supporters, which would likely hurt Davis (even though some Bustamente supporters probably support the recall).

6. No way. They need those Latino votes to fight this
whether they vote yes or no, they have got to get those voters to the polls. Then they have got to understand that voting no and defeating the GOP is the biggest victory they can achieve. If the Dems can beat this thing it will be a HUGE boost for morale of the party across the nation.
We need Cruz in there.
We need to defeat Arnold and this charade.

This fight is here and now. If any DU'ers can do ANYTHING in California to help, then they should do it. And we should be getting people to the polls to vote AGAINST Arnold. We have been fucking around with disastrous "experiments" in office ever since Reagan. These incompetent, evil fools need to be turned back.

7. the whore media is the problem
they had been attacking davis for YEARS. most of their reporting right now is ass kissing of arnold. if they had just played one of gray davis' town hall meetings to the number of audiences as was played the debate with arnold, i believe gray davis would be winning. but they didn't show davis' town hall meetings or cover it as they did arnolds. not much can be done with the whore media k issing arnold's ass.
