Refugee centers should have been setup well away from the New Orleans BEFORE the disaster. We should have had military (NG support) to help evactuate people who didn't have access to transportation.

The dread scenario of New Orleans being submerged in water is no new concept. They have been talking about this for decades on the Discovery channel. It's under sea level and surrounded by water!!!

2. I cant watch TV anymore

There is pitifully little help coming.

People are stranded and the water is getting higher.

An unbelievable nightmare and tragedy.

3. She got into Jefferson Parrish.

She knows it has alot of problems.
Trying to make the best of the situation.

She is tearful.

"It has to be evacuated. It has to be evacuated".

We have to have a place to take them.

Tomorrow is a day of prayer.

4. There is no safe haven in New Orleans now.

You can't take care of the people.
You can't flush toilets.

It can't go much longer than a day or two.
Going to try to ferry them out.

Wherever we can establish refuges we will.

6. Very bad

I have been a Red Cross Mass Shelter Manager --- and this is a very bad situation.

No potable water (just the Cl2 flavored water from National Guard Water Buffaloes)

No toilets.

No shower facilities.

No hot meals (the Southern Baptist Brotherhood can not get their Mobile Kitchen semi-trailers into NO).

MRE's and no toilets except maxed out port-a-potties --> disaster

No air conditioning (standing water) - very high humidity.

No news (rumors run wild).

No recreation -- boredom drives people crazy.

The situation is a sanity hazard and a public health hazard.

Added: The thing I would worry about is violence. It doesn't take much to push some people over the edge. And remember - the police and National Guardsmen are putting up with the same conditions and are probably stressed out.

How exactly are 20,000 - 30,000 people going to spend a week in the Superdome with no toilets?

This is a nightmare beyond a nightmare.
