No Outside Contractors!

Locals to rebuild all infrastructure! That will be the answer to multiple ills. Of course, the BIG contractors will scream they aren't sucking the profits for themselves...too damn bad! Governors, Senators, Congressmen, think about your citizens before your pocketbook for once!!

2. My Father

Now last year after the Hurricanes in Florida my father who works for the power company here in Wisconsin, went down to Florida to help rebuild the power infastructure down there. Now he was hired by the local guys because there just isn't enough people to do the job. I agree that contracts should go local first, and then to people from the outside because like the person ahead of me said, there just isn't enough people locally to handle all of the work.

5. I agree and should have modified to read

Hire local laborers, assuming no local contractors or if local, they need to hire local labor. That's the best cure for homelessness, looting, and other ills of the under-employed and the under-valued.

3. Oh yeah - a nice 5 or 8 year wait for an available contractor.

That'll be great especially for the poorest people.

4. After the Florida hurricanes of last year....

...contractors came in from ALL OVER THE UNITED STATES and it still was a 6-8 month waiting list to get a roof or drywall work done.

Your argument is noble, but unfortunately does not reside anywhere near reality.

New Orleans is finished.

took 6 months to get shingles in, couldn't get sheetrock, or lumber.
There are still plenty of roofs, a year later with blue sheeting on them. And the ripoffs and gouging was unbelievable.
