2. Talk about biting the hand
If the Republicans alienate these guys and the intelligence community I think they will get about 12 votes nationwide next year. Time to pander!

3. One Alabama veterans group offered a reward to anyone that could...
...prove that Dubya was never AWOL while in the National Guard. That money has never been claimed.

Some folks in this state may be rednecks, and some may be uneducated, but we're far from being stupid.

4. Republicans can be patriots!
Don't ever forgot that, as we tut-tutter to each other about the GOP. There are lots of good Republicans whom with can disagree with, but are basically sane and we can work with.

If you immediately respond with--NO THEYRE ALL EVIL CROOKS AND FASCISTS--then you've misunderstood the dynamic. The Republican Party has been hijacked by what one of Sen McCain's aides called the Dark Side of the Party.

Most Republicans--and Democrats--really think that the GOP of Bush II is the same GOP of Bush I. Bush Sr's GOP was bad enough, and did dirty things, but was more conservative than radical (remember Bush I's health care plan? could you imagine Bush II offering one?) It was center right instead of far right.

What we are seeing here is regular Republicans awakening to the fact that all those with power in the modern GOP have total hostility to the idea of government as an agent for the public good. It is, for them, nothing more than a vehicle for power and the enforcement of radical ideology. They're contempt for norms and their two-faced machinations are almost Roman in scope.

Next time you argue with a non-Freeper Republican, remember that they almost certainly have no idea the monstrosity that their party has become, that the 'conservative' party has gone radical.

"Republicans can be patriots"?--yes, but only so long as they are blind.

In my heart, I know you're right (completely unintentional Goldwater tie-in), but up here in Maine, our 2 moderate republican senators, Snowe & Collins, are a little too willing to tow the cheyney-bush line.

Yes, Snowe opposed the tax-cut, and yes, they both have grave misgivings about pryor, but all of the correspondence I've received from them expresses STRONG support for the overall junta agenda.

I (formerly) have suggested to some Democrats up here that one or both may be ripe to be recruited to jump since the party of T.R. Roosevelt & Abe Lincoln has become the party of bent lotts, lil; rickey santorum & john asscrust, but have been assured by many, including a high ranking member of the state house of representatives with Senate/Gubernatorial ambitions that this will NEVER happen. So, while I personally like Snowe & Collins. I won't be giving either a vote for a long, long time, if ever!

That's why I say...
... Any D over any r in '04! :kick: :bounce:

Have a good night everybody, I'm going nightie-night! :boring:
