I, like everyone else, was surprised when Arnie jumped in the ring. I immediately thought that a deal was cut, that he would get a free ride from the press, as so he has. What struck me was that the announcement came the day Gore gave his first major political speech.

Arnie knocked Gore off of the news and front pages.

Now I remember the first polls that were taken. Arnie didn't have a chance. But all of a sudden, next day, new polls began to appear, showing Arnie winning.

Now since everyone thinks that Arnie will win, nobody will think it odd at all, that Arnie "won".

But if somehow they don't pull this off, and the public gets a whiff that yes, Virginia, voting actually means something, Bush will lose in a landslide in '04.

The sound will be like "whoosh" - right on out of the door.

anyone in California ever votes for a republican again, they should be sent to an insane asslym - unless they are big business people. Between the Enron fraud and the hi tech jobs going overseas, the people in California don't have a chance. Bush on the other hand has all those voting machines. This could be the test for the voting machines though - to see if they can get anyone elected.

...I think you got something there. I think that there is a "certain" population within the whole of the United States that is not represented, not cared for, ignored completely.

They are not counted in the census.

They are not counted in the Unemployment numbers, economic numbers, etc.

They are not counted in polls.

They are there. But no one acknowledges them.

If they finally stand up and vote. If they make themselves heard all the assumptions will be out and a new majority will take shape.

I think THEY have decided that ARNOLD SHOULD WIN. So THEY will get what THEY want. People will hear this and shrug. That is what THEY want.

THEY = media/corporations/big money/big buisness/Bush Administration, the government of and for all those things.

Remember, the upper class never really meant for common people to actually be able really vote.

They have never agreed that EVERYBODY is entitled to vote. And they don't think your vote is worth as much as theirs.

That's why Jessie scrared the bejesus out of them when he ran because he was waking up people that really "don't have a right to vote". Mass votes could change things. Until the public was sufficiently educated, democracy never really stood a chance anyway. But with the internet ... well let's just say the powers that be hadn't wargamed with the internet in mind.

Couldn't you feel the "so what" attitude in Florida in 2000 -- a kind of, "those kind of people should not be able to determine who the president of the united states is" kind of thing. So let the disenfranchisement go. Let it go.

What possible reason could there be for insisting on a voting system without hard copy?

This Arnold thing is very important. Imagine a democrat with his personal baggage trying to run for office? Can't be done. A deal was cut.

And I agree that California is not what people think it is. I went to law school there and a lot of right wing things got their start there. Nixon, Reagan, the John Birch society, proposition 13, anti-affirmative action started there with the Baake case. I could go on and on. Most people don't think of these things when they think of California.

A lot of people seem to think that California is hardcore liberal. Sorry this ain't exactly the case. Sure, San Fran and most parts of LA are core dem spots but Orange County and just about everywhere else are freeper heaven. CA isn't all it's said to be

there's no paper trail so Diebold can decide who wins since they are the only ones who have access to the voting machines and no one can contest the results.

7. If it works in California

It can work nationwide. And there are similarities.
Both are running personalities that have no experience. One says he is a repug that has liberal ideas, the other says he’s a Demo with liberal ideas and both think Reagan was God.
Both have candidates that love violence, one made a carrier out of it, the other sold it as entertainment to the public.
But in the end of this only republicans win.
