Chavez offering aid to New Orleans and American Poor
I have tried unsuccessfully to find a link to this story.
Last night I was watching the hurricane coverage on CNN when the took a break to cover some world news.
They were covering Jessie Jackson in Venezuela meeting with Chavez.
Then they went into a story about Chavez offering aid to Low Income Americans in the form of heating oil at 80% discount. The sale of oil to these people was through Citgo gas stations. Not much more was given.
It also said he wanted to offer aid to the hurricane victims along the gulf.

I couldn't help but to sit there and think, Take that bu$h and robertson and stick it up yours.

If anyone knows more, I would like to learn more about this story.

1. I heard this last night, as well
Sad thing is, watch the Stepford wives from the burbs bring their mighty SUV's into the poor areas trying to find a Citgo.

5. Chavez shows more Christian charity than does
Robertson. I'm surprised Robertson hasn't blamed the devastation of the Gulf Coast on gays and abortion seekers.

Venezuela's CITGO to Provide Cheap Gas for U.S. Hospitals, Nursing Homes and Schools

Caracas, Venezuela. August 28, 2005 (VenezuelAnalysis.com).- Rafael Ramirez, president of Venezuela's oil company PDVSA, offered some details of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez's offer to provide cheaper gasoline and heating oil to U.S. poor communities.Speaking shortly after a press conference held by President Chavez and U.S. Reverend Jesse Jackson, Ramirez said that CITGO Petroleum Corp., the wholly owned subsidiary of PDVSA, is currently refining up to 664.000 barrels of oil through the refineries it owns and operates in the United States.
Venezuela is the world's fifth largest oil exporter and the fourth largest supplier of oil to the United States. Venezuelan oil accounted for 12% of U.S. oil imports.

Jackson also led a prayer for the victims of Hurricane Katrina, and praised Chavez's offer of Venezuelan hurricane aid for Louisiana. Details of that aid have yet to be provided. Jackson said repeatedly during his visit that good relations are in both countries' interests since Venezuela is a top supplier of U.S. oil.

Jackson also spoke about Chavez’s offer to provide discounted oil and perhaps gasoline to low-income communities in the U.S. Jackson called the proposal a “good idea,” whose details still needed to be fleshed-out. Jackson also pointed out that there is a program in the U.S. to provide assistance to low-income families for heating oil, known as the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).Chavez said that not only is his government interested in initiating this program for low-income heating oil, but would also be willing to help provide aid for the victims of Hurricane Katrina, which is devastating the coast of Louisiana these days. Chavez mentioned that the Venezuelan military has a special humanitarian assistance unit that could carry out rescue operations.
