It's GNN: Gore's bid to buy TV channel
(Mods please remove if this is a dupe)

Former US Vice President Al Gore is close to a buying a cable TV channel, putting him in a position to launch a liberal news outlet to counteract the increased popularity of conservative stations like the Fox News Channel, a source familiar with the matter said today.

Gore and a group of investors are in talks to buy Newsworld International, a cable news channel owned by Vivendi Universal, for $US70 million ($A103.17 million), the source said.

"Vivendi is near a deal but the deal is not done yet," said the source, referring to Gore's bid.

Gore's spokeswoman and Vivendi executives declined to comment.

If Gore succeeds, Newsworld International could compete with Fox News Channel, which has unseated CNN as the most widely watched news channel in the United States with a formula of brash talk show formats mixed with hard news.

Reports surfaced earlier this year that Gore was seeking financial backers for a liberal cable channel to help Democrats counter conservative media voices.

2. Maybe contact Gore?
The article wasn't specific about that, only about how close he is to purchasing the station.

I sure hope the deal goes through and the channel is a HUGE success!!

:bounce:

On edit: Can you imagine a consortium of real liberals, with President Gore leading them, running a news channel? The implications are astounding. Real information about real issues -- with a progressive point of view -- on the environment, energy, health care, education.... The list goes on and on.

Done right, how exciting and wonderful would this be!! Knowing Gore, he's already got Turner on the team, whose experience and expertise will be invaluable. If this goes through, I'll get my cable turned back on in a heartbeat!

6. The catch is that cable providers may not opt to carry this station if
it is created. Just like radio doesn't seem to opt for Malloy.

7. Then it's up to us...
...to keep hammering and hounding our cable providers to carry it!

Threaten to cancel if they don't carry it, promise to sign up if they do. They'll respond.

A cable service is different from a radio station. Malloy is ONE show, not a station. A cable CHANNEL with a full range of programming is in an entirely different category.

8. You are so right.
And if Gore gets his station then we should start a campaign to get him aired across the country, so the lefts voices can begin getting heard again.
