1. The trapped may welcome some fresh water to drink
I'm trying to find a silver lining where there isn't much of one to be had ...

2. Huh? That reads like the typical summer day anywhere along the gulf coast.
You might have titled your post, "New Orleans weather returns to usual."

In fact, that forecast is better than it might have been. The highs are only in the lower and mid 90s. What would be difficult, without electricity, is a heatwave that sent the highs into the 100s.

3. since NO is without levee pumps, ANY precipitation adds to the crisis
In optimal conditions, with everything functioning, NO has to pump out any rain that falls on the city, even light rain.

The city is, what, 80% flooded? Please, Mother Nature, no more rain!

9. Welcome to DU! And how about she sends it to Crawford, now that
bush will hustle back there (and Cindy is moving on)?

11. I don't know about Crawford...
...but it's been bone dry here for a while.

Maybe we need some pipeline system to run water from flooded areas to areas suffering from droughts.

8. The flooding isn't from precipitation, & a few thunderstorms won't matter.
At this point, the city's water actually is higher than Lake Pontchartrain's, since the latter is receding from the storm surge. At some of the breaks in the levees, the water is actually flowing from the city outward! The rain from a few thunderstorms isn't going to make any difference. That's the least of worries right now.

13. THAT'S what I was seeing and couldn't make sense of!
Thank you for explaining, eallen. I'm totally lost on NOLA's levee and canal system. Couldn't figure out why the water appeared to be draining from the city into the canal...but it was ever so slightly cheering, nonetheless.
