2. Y'know, I'm as happy to see him mess himself up as anybody ...
Edited on Thu Oct-02-03 12:11 AM by nownow
He put his foot squarely in his mouth, at least within the context of a multicultural audience, so fair and square, he oughtta be off that beat... BUT...

Do you know anybody, personally, who listens to his show? I do, I work with people who think he's 'king of the world.' In my house, we call them wingnuts, fundies and freepers. They, however, think they are just all right. And they're never going to change that attitude, because hate is A-OK with them. Rush has been tellin' 'em so for twenty years, goddammit.

The radio stations and show sponsors rely on a mouth-breathing subculture of paranoid, obsessive right-wing freaks for revenue, and those mouth-breathing, paranoid, obsessive freaks aren't going anywhere anytime soon. Did you think liberals or ethnic people listened to him? He's a nut case -- he blows racist, misogynistic crap out his piehole all the time. He's been doing it for nearly twenty years. Why would one faux pas on a job he probably didn't even really think he'd get damage his reputation as a misogynistic racist?

Fundies and freepers probably buy a lot of magnetic mattress pads and Gold Bond ointment. That used to be his advertising base, and their money is just as green as anyone's.

(edited to add last paragraph -- hit post too soon!)

6. That would be nice but I doubt it
and even if he did get canned from EIB, someone else would just pick him up. Unless his ratings go way, way down or he starts losing an unacceptable amount of advertisers, we're probably just going to have to put up with the fat bastid.

7. Here is what I know.
Advertisers buy bundles. They don't care which station its on. They buy the market.

9. Hey, maybe Purdue Pharma will step in and sponsor him
(They're the folks who make OxyContin, Rush's own personal friend, also known as "hillbilly heroin".)

Just tryin' to help keep that "national treasure" on the air...
