1. Don't expect much from this group of spineless jackasses.
I've totally lost faith in the Washington Democrats.

I expect less than nothing from them.

2. Yeah.
Mary Landrieu has been on the TV most of the last two days.

Maybe I'm just being weird or something, but I think we should wait more than 2 days before screaming "Whore!"

3. Dem leaders have been MIA for sometime now. We may
have to start a commission to see if their bodies can be retrieved from the dead zone.

5. Politicizing this right now is the WORST thing anyone can do.
There'll be plenty of blame to go around when all the people are safe.

6. Well, the Dem Gov of LA and the Dem Sen have been doing their jobs
They have been on TV talking about what is going on and trying to inform a scared population that someone hasn't abandoned them.

National Dem leaders will be back in DC next week when Congress reconvenes. I have no idea what they are supposed to do that will alleviate the suffering at this point, but they can press for HEARINGS into what the hell went wrong in the funding of New Orleans levee repair and upkeep. They can ask, through their web sites and e-mail for supporters to donate to reputable charitable organizations.

Other than that, what else would you have them do? Do you actually need Hillary Clinton or Howard Dean or John Kerry or Evan Bayh to stand up and say, "This is an awful disaster." This is not their job. Their job is to legislate and to hold the government accountable when it screws up. Well, they get their chance next week when Congress reconvenes.

7. Your right, what do they want them to do- politicize this now?
The DNC has already commented on the disaster and has requested that donations be sent to listed organizations and others if you want to help.

Dean: 'Do Something Now'
Governor Dean sent an email to millions of Democrats across the country yesterday evening urging them to do whatever they can to help those affected by Hurricane Katrina. Read More...

8. Howard Dean has been asking for dems to step forward and help.

I'm sure most Democrats are doing the same thing. Short of getting on a boat and pulling folks off of houses, what do you expect them to do?

Ooooops. Sorry. This post didn't really fit the "spineless dems" meme.:eyes:

16. Republicans use Democrat as an adjective to imply that we are
somehow less than democratic. It's important that we avoid using their language to define ourselves. Saying "Democrat leaders" makes one sound like Tom Delay.

17. Maybe they figure it doesn't matter if they do anything because...
of the three states hit hardest, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana...the only Democratic senator is Landrieu (she's doing her job), as far as I know there the only Democratic governor is Blanco (she's definitely involved), and I think the number of Dem. congresspeople is slim (I know Gene Taylor from MS, but that's all).

And Schumer did urge Bush to open the oil reserves on day 1. But that really didn't have much to do with the victims. It's not like they can drive anywhere. Come to think of it, I don't like that Schumer did that because the Dems are already making gas prices a political issue and that's what he did.

This is awfully disappointing.
