6. He went to Southern Mississippi
I forget his hometown, but sportscasters have always thought it odd that a guy from Southern Mississippi would become known as one of the best cold weather QB's ever.

Edited on Wed Aug-31-05 11:54 AM by melissinha
His family lives there, thats why..

Hurricane Katrina made landfall right over Brett Favre's hometown of Kiln, Mississippi.

A spokesman says the Packers quarterback's wife, children, and all his relatives are in Mississippi. Favre spoke with them Monday morning and planned to try to reach them again Monday night.

Favre was watching TV news reports closely between practices and meetings, the Packers spokesman said.

Favre expressed his hopes and prayers are with his family and his hometown right now.

8. why such harsh treatment?
because he is rich and famous? at least he is using his fame to plea for more help for people. It shows that the gov. is not doing enough if an NFL person has to come to the mic. give people a break. He is asking for more generators for the whole area, I would be glad for any help I can get.

14. So not only do they need to be Democrats
they also need to be poor before we are going to give a flying fuck about them, eh?

He's a victim same as others. His mom was right in the middle of it at the family homestead. As for interviewing him, he rather happens to be famous and from the area. News folks tend to like that sort of thing.

15. so pampered over-rated millionaires don't suffer
when their entire family is wiped out? I know he doesn't know yet, but what does money have to do with losing loved ones? You can't "buy" them back.

17. may have to eat crow on this one
It may turn out that Bret will give a ton of money to the cause. In times like these bank accounts can't change peoples misery, rich and poor suffer alike.

18. He didn't lose any loved ones
Put aside the current GD addiction to hysteria and melodrama for a moment. The key difference being he can cut a check and buy his way out of misery. The poor, the middle class, who have been devastated by this cannot.

But yeah, it's a good thing he has asked people to help. But really, does it amount to much?

25. My claim that money can't bring back the dead is "hysteria and melodrama?"
WTF? I am sorry but this kind of "too cool for school" attitude "I'm too cool to let be hysterical and melodramatic" really pisses me off.

26. How Do You Know He's Pampered?
Because he's a millionaire?

And does that mean all millionaires by definition are pampered....

I see your Patriots avatar....

Nobody can be more pampered than that soft boy, Tom Brady....

19. Favre is from Kiln, Mississippi
You have to live in WI to know the clout this guy has here. He can mobilize WI'ites more effectively than anyone. His wife, who is being treated for cancer, recently started selling pink Packer hats to fund cancer research. They sold out instantly @ $25 a pop, about 25,000 of them. Another 25 or 30 thousand are on order. If Favre tells the people here to help, they will. It's a good thing.

but that is ONLY when he is playing football.

He is a human being and I hope his family is safe and I hope his interview spurs on people to help and to donate to relief funds.

24. I posted about this early
This just proves how hard it is to evacuate anyplace during a hurricane. Favre could have flown his entire family out of Mississippi at the first warning. Instead, his mom and grandmother ended up hiding in the attic of a flooded house.
