People respond on FOX news about the disaster... whew-boy
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,167407,00.html

"Why is it whenever there is an emergency, President Bush always seems to be coming back from or cutting his vacation short? Is that all he does? There are people dying from war, from natural disasters, etc. and it always seems as though he is on vacation." — Dee

“The same people who condemned President Bush for taking too long to send help overseas to the tsunamis are sure taking their time helping fellow Americans.” — Andrea (Oakdale, MN)

"Where is the international help for the United States? We are always one of the first to come to any aid when disasters strike around the world. Where is our help?? Now is the time for other nations to come to our rescue!" — Debbie (Normal, IL)

"Don't forget the children. They sense our fear and frustration. Keep them close and reassure them that all is replaceable except them. God bless the little children." — Susan (Ayden, NC)

“I am from Mississippi but am currently in Montana working. Your coverage of the area was great, and I can't think of anyone I had rather hear it from than Bill Hemmer. He will do FOX proud. I have ripped the knobs off my TV.” — Gary (Chunky, MS)

“Let’s see how many countries come to our aid in the aftermath of one of the worst hurricanes to hit our shores in history. It's my guess that it will be up to the everyday working taxpayer.” — Kerry

The above are snippets and there are MANY more that cover the spectrum.

But all have one thing in common: the big picture. Whatever that is.

10. Europe has been flooding
Edited on Wed Aug-31-05 12:48 PM by sarahlee
and I have not seen/heard Bush calling for Americans to reach out and help them these past weeks either. Maybe it wasn't as bad as ours, but when they were first getting hit, we didn't know we were going to be hit this bad. I didn't hear Fox News calling on Americans to give aid to say, Sweden, then.

Torrential rains have caused havoc across central and eastern Europe, killing up to 36 people."

Europe Cleans Up After Flooding
By Ruben Sprich
Reuters

BERN, Switzerland -- Thousands of volunteers toiled alongside rescue workers on Saturday to clear walls of debris left by the downpours from Bern to Bucharest, which have caused more than $1 billion of damage in Switzerland. Hundreds of people returned to their flood-damaged homes in Switzerland and other parts of central Europe where the torrential rains have killed more than 40 people in the past week.

In Bern, police said most of the 1,100 residents of the old quarter, having been evacuated for fear the centuries-old buildings could collapse, were being allowed back, although water and electricity supplies had not been restored. "The flood risk has receded, but there is an awful lot of clearing up to do," said police spokesman Franz Maerki.

Europe picks up pieces as flood waters recede

GENEVA (Jang Group) -- Flood waters were receding in Europe on Saturday, following a weeklong crisis which left at least 70 people dead across the centre and east of the continent. Meanwhile, across the continent in parched Portugal, fire-fighters brought seven blazes under control overnight that had flared up again during one of the country’s most destructive fire seasons in a decade.
In Romania, hardest hit from the floods with a death toll of 33, authorities said the torrential rain which fuelled the flooding should tail off by the end of the weekend, with fine weather expected to return by Monday.

Water levels were also dropping in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Bulgaria and Poland. In Romania’s central Harghita region, authorities on Saturday continued the search for two people who were still missing, but the chances of finding them were said to be slim. Health officials there on Friday said there was a risk of disease, with sewers wrecked by flooding and hundreds of animal carcasses strewn across the waterlogged streets of the region’s villages.

12. International help
Edited on Wed Aug-31-05 12:34 PM by ecoflame
One of the things that pisses me off NO END is the expectation that 'other' nations should help. It floors me that people - even stupid people - don't get that one fucking state here is equivalent to the size of one, two or more countries. We cannot nor should not expect considerable help from other countries, especially those whose citizens aren't much better off than many I've seen in NO.

Jus' saying to those Fox viewers

-edit: Tried to find it again, CBC (Canada) had a page with listings to help; first - American Red Cross..

18. LOL, you mean like Canada, China, Russia, India, Australia,...
Oh wait, we aren't that large of a country compared to the rest of the world. Even if we don't like their form of government, we help them when they have disasters.

So much for the Liberal vision of the world working together. First, it was they didn't like Bush so they won't help us. Now it's they're too small. How many more excuses can the rest of the world come up with not to send aid?

31. That's not what I said......
Edited on Wed Aug-31-05 05:28 PM by ecoflame
I'm not talking about large countries equivalent in size or larger than the U.S. - or a freakin' continent (Australia)- I'm talking specific countries in Europe, Central & South America. Nor am I saying they do not have the means to help. And why are you getting upset about other countries sending US aid? Why, aren't we just the type to take care of ourselves - we don't need no f*cking help?

Germany, Australia, Canada, and England, oh - and Venezuela (from the very beginning)- had offers of help just this morning. CBC had a page Monday evening listing agencies that Canadians could offer assistance or donations.

My point is that even stupid people in the United States cannot expect help from those nations who do not have the monetary or other means to help us and who are considerably less well off than some of those I've observed in NO.

I'll bet you give a gift with the expectation that you'll get something in return, huh? That is not what it's about. Help where you can, how you can.

even stupid people.....I'm jus' saying

13. What????
“The same people who condemned President Bush for taking too long to send help overseas to the tsunamis are sure taking their time helping fellow Americans.” — Andrea (Oakdale, MN)

Who is Andrea talking about? The Corps of Engineers? National Guard? Why would anyone condemn * for his handling of either? :sarcasm:

"taking their time helping fellow Americans..."

While * plays golf and strums his new geetarr, Murrkins like those here at DU, Vets, and those in surrounding states have been mobilizing resources and support to substitute for those * sent to protect his oil.

Don't get me started.

what her husband tells her to.

She's also dead wrong. Americans (a lot of them) have risen to the occasion beautifully.

She's really a sad example of what happens to people caught inside the extreme RW echo chamber of Faux news - just like the other Bushbot who ripped the knobs of the TV. (knobs?)

There's proof right there of how ignorant Fox viewers are kept. They don't have any idea of the aid offered the US. They probably still believe in WMD and that Iraq had something to do with 9/11.

25. There's no "probably" about it...many do indeed believe there were
WMDs (they were all snuck out of Iraq prior to the invasion), and I still hear them say Iraq was connected to 9/11.
