This is the end of Rush Limbaugh.
Let's review:

Rush makes a thinly-veiled racist comment on a national football pre-game show.

A few days later, after probably hundreds of thousands of angry e-mails and letters, he resigns from ESPN.

Now, a story has broke out that he purchased thousands of dollars worth in prescription pain killers from the black-market.

HOPEFULLY, there will be talk (and sadly, controversy from the freepers) about THESE TWO stories all over the news for maybe weeks to come.

OK, we have that covered. Now let's look at these cute little freepers. We have concluded that their intelligence level is, well... close to zero. Knowing that, I will assume that this whole mess will probably flake off a few of his hardcore freeper supporters.

The people who would still stand by him even if he was caught by Nevada state troopers fornicating a duck in the nude on the side of a highway outside Carson City will still support him, no matter what.

There's nothing you can do about the idiots that follow him. But There's something you can do about HIM, and this whole quagmire just did it.

1. Just had a nutty, totally unsupportable thought.
It just popped into my head, when I was reading your post -- and I recalled a post I read earlier, titled "Where is Larry Flynt?" in reference to the recall, etc.

How much $$ you suppose it cost Larry to get Limbaugh's housekeeper to spill the Oxycontin -- I mean beans?

2. This might also explain his rapid weight loss
I would bet that Rush was buying Oxycontin (a morphine derivative) for pain, and offsetting the tranquilizing effects with "diet pills" (read: speed). This seems to be a common combination.

3. You have to admit
he doesn't look too good.

I was shocked, I haven't seen him in a long while.

Something's not right, besides the obvious.

6. Yeah its obvious a lot of people here haven't seen Rush lately
People here still make fat jokes about him but the truth is, not only has he lost weight he's rapidly reaching the Whitney Houston "why doesn't someone help him" reptilian-junkie look.

Certainly one can't deny that karma seems to be laying a big time whoopin' on him , it's still sad to see anyone get ravaged by drugs.

28. Fuck him! It ain't sad to me...
Couldn't happen to a more deserving piece of shit. One by one, the "family values" party gets outed for the amoral slimes they are: Newt the Adulterer, Bob Livingstone, Mr. "Youthful Indscretion," Bennett the Gambler, Rush the Racist Junkie.

I felt sorry for Jeb's junkie daughter (who WOULDN'T be a junkie living in that family?). I feel no pity whatever for Rush. Maybe he'll end up like that guy in the movie "Thinner."

10. It won't matter
Even if Rush tries to act like nothing happened he'll always have the tag of racist and drug addict, which when one is a conservative demigod, is pretty much the end of one's career.

A lot of dittoheads think only minorities and other "undesirables" develop drug problems, so Rush's cred with them is gone.

but I doubt it. A prescription drug scandal, if real, isn't enough to cause his radio career to end. Unfortunately, Rush will still most likely continue behind the mic for some time to come, although a brief hiatus might take place. He will go to the Betty Ford clinic or somesuch rich persons clinic, and then tour all the talk shows with a new book on how he overcame his problem, etc etc

16. I said that on Nov. 4, 1992
But the election of Bill Clinton was the best thing that ever happened to Limbaugh. The sonofabitch just won't go away. If he was caught on videotape molesting children his sychophants would continue to support him and blame the "liberal media".

17. Here's how this will go
Most of you may remember the Laura Schlessinger story. Her career didn't collapse like a house of cards after the first revelation, the nude photos. Her career finally collapsed when incident upon incident upon incident formed a critical mass that her sponsors and syndicators couldn't ignore.

The nude photos. The resulting lawsuit. Her slandering of Beach Access, the young men's store in Southern California. The resulting lawsuit. The settlement she paid to them. Somewhere in the middle of all of this, a disastrous speaking appearance before a group in Dallas that was widely reported on. The news came out that she had not spoken to either her mother or her sister in over 10 years. The trainwreck of her television show, organized boycotts of all sponsors, and the continuing heat many of her syndicated stations took from dedicated activists. The cancellation of her newspaper column by multiple papers across the USA. More unsupportable and unbelievable on-air comments from Laura.

The last straw was when her mother was found to have expired many months previously in her home. Laura promptly went on national live television and blamed her mother.

Laura Schlessinger is still syndicated on stations around the United States, but her books are no longer bestsellers, and she's not heard on most larger markets.

Rush Limbaugh's career isn't going to collapse because he got fired from ESPN. The resulting scandals will chip away at his career until it's over. If the FReekers think they're going to bring Chunky Soup to its knees over their continued employment of Mr. McNair, this will hasten the destruction of their hero. Any revenge-type protests over Limbaugh's comments to Campbells' (or any other of Mr. McNair's sponsors,) will be seen as racist and inappropriate.

As Will or Matcom would say, Bank on it.

Julie

p.s. Could we get O'Really a job at ESPN? ;-)

19. Call me crazy, but I'm not sure nude photos.....
Compare to drug addiction and being involved in a drug ring. This is going to hurt him big time. It hurts even more when you claim to be virtuous. It's the throwing stones old stones in glass houses do-da.

FYI, It's McNabb. Not McNair.

20. Not by a long shot
Do you really think much of his base is going to dislike him for saying that the "liberal media" is playing affirmative favorites by giving a black quarterback better coverage than he deserves? He'll be a noble victim for standing up to say what is only common sense.

The drug issues will be fluffed somehow along these lines: there will be a technicality about how it was reported (how much, what kind, etc.) and then the charges will be decried as "tainted", "exaggerated", and other such dismissals.

He knows how to survive this; if ESPN cashiers him, he will have been cruelly muzzled by the atheistic commie babykilling lazy loafing bums.

Nah, he'll be a force to reckon with for years.

Curiously, though, your post says that he won't lose much of his base--which I completely agree with--but that somehow this will destroy him. That only happens to moral people with at least a patina of decency; this will just feed his persecution/hero complex.

easy now to discount anything he says....his audience counted on his moral "superiority" to make his social-political case. Now's he just another pathetic racist junkie with a questionable past.

The man who has caused so much un-needed pain for others, is finally getting his just deserts...hope he likes it!
