BushCo seem to have lucked out again
The tragedy at New Orleans has rather taken the wind out of the anti-war movement's sails. Today is the last day of the vigil in Crawford and normally it would have been wound up with a bang before Cindy started up elsewhere...but she and it have fallen right off the media and public-consciousness radar.

How nice for BushCo. If it weren't utterly impossible, I'd start wondering what they did to cause that hurricane.

1. I imagine it's just another blessing
his god has bestowed upon him. With FEMA in there to disrupt any relief efforts begun by locals and create chaos, I'm sure this admin will be able to maximize the number of casualties that will result from this tragedy.

4. I don't know - I did not think the Crawford protest had a strong exit
strategy but I have no doubt that this disaster and those suffering are very much on Cindy's mind and in her heart. When she speaks again it will be genuine and heartfelt.

9. Cindy has called for remaining p supplies to be delivered to the disaster
At this mornings's press conference, Cindy, military families and veterans, including National Guardsmen, sent condolences to the men and women of Louisiana who are facing Hurricane Katrina. Cindy called for all remaining Camp Casey materials to be sent to the disaster site, and veteran called on fellow vets in Louisiana to help with disaster relief. More information about the coming bus tour was announced.

17. Good for Cindy. Nicely done
We might also suggest that the JAG that wants to "dog her footsteps" go volunteer to help in NO instead of stalking Cindy.

6. Quite the contrary. It is bringing intense focus to his war folly ....
... and the resources squandered by him during his illegal occupation of Iraq that would have been on the ground and ready to roll to help the people of the Gulf Coast states.

Peace.

7. Thats not luck, it was advantagous for him to leave early.
Of course there is still the bus tour, so the anti-war movement isn't dieing down at all. Just a new form. And the movement is still relevant after the tragedy subsides, katrina changed everything - we need our resources home.

10. BushCo making the best of it...
WIll declare national emergency, open interment camps for New Orleans residents needing a temp home (a good thing...I think)

Gas rationing. As the extent of the damage to Gasoline producition for most of mid america is unknown.

Facilities may be intact but who is working them? No homes no infrastructure to support the thousands upon thousadns of people who work docks, ships, refineries....etc..

Fuel will need to be reserved for harvests.

They opened the oil reserves for cripes sake. Bush wouldn't do that if things weren't bad...

I'd like to say it is time for Bush to say....the troops are coming home. We have more problems to take care of here now...ones that threaten the stability of this country and the continued ability for Bush and the neocons to govern.

11. Maybe not
This is disaster of biblical proportions kind of stuff. It will require more leadership than I think he is capable of. It cannot be fixed with a quickie photo op or an invasion. No, this is going to take work and not just flashy camera work.

more weeks, then things will get back to business as usual. Cindy will be all ready to go with round 2 with bush.

14. Actually, I've talked to quite a few people today
who are wondering out loud why he's so slow to respond. They didn't seem like happy people at ALL.

This is his Marie Antionette moment. I didn't lose the chance to tell those coworkers he was eating cake the other day in California. Then playing his guitar. Then golfing. Tail end of a five week vacation, you know.

They were even less happy after I told them that. Complete with pictures from the AP.

15. As soon as it's made public that he cut funds for work
that might have prevented the NL flooding and took a hatchet to funds for a plan on how to deal with a big hurricane, this might be the worst thing that could ever happen . . . far worse than Hurricane Cindy. And it's compounded by tax cuts for the wealthy, his worthless energy bill and our billions and billions and billions of dollars spent invading a country that didn't attack us. How the hell are we going to pay for New Orleans? Another loan from the Chinese?

When things calm down and people start asking how and why this happened, they're going to find out that the construction of the levees was defunded in order to fund the Iraq war - and the LA National Guard (and all their equipment) is in Iraq.

Bush left that entire region completely vunerable in order to finance his precious war - a war which was completely unnecessary. In the end, I think the anti-war movement will SURGE because of this! JMHO

21. Will you people STOP this sort of shit?
Edited on Wed Aug-31-05 02:20 PM by Inland
Everytime something comes up that busies the MSM for five minutes, it's lucky for Bush.

But you guys say it even when it's just another story of Bush incompetence or venality.

The Rove scandal knocks the DSM off the headlines, and people bitch.

Several score of American deaths in Iraq knocks Rove off the headlines, and people bitch.

Cindy Sheehan knocks everything off the headlines, and people bitch.

Look, these are Bush generated media events. These are Bush disasters coming home to roost. They each do their damage and many of them haven't gone away, like Rove; It's actually good to stop talking about Rove when there's nothing more to say until the indictments.

Just deal with the issues du jour for what they are: problems for the nation as well as more bad facts for the republicans.
