Condi Rice: Nobody ever imagined a hurricane, a Cat. 5 hurricane
Edited on Wed Aug-31-05 02:24 PM by tgnyc
would slam directly into the Gulf Coast.

We heard chatter about some weather event possibly occuring during the summer, but all indications were that it would be a traditional weather event and that it would be overseas.

If the President had known that a hurricane would strike New Orleans on August 29th, 2005, he of course would have done everything he could have to prevent it.

6. I called for impeachment
I called my senators and representative and told them I want that man impeached over his behavior during this crisis. Amazingly, the staffers didn't argue with me.

Did Condie really say that, or are you imitating her? If she did say that, how about a link.

14. Joke.
tgnyc has a couple of threads reworking admin's answers to earlier crises in terms of the hurricane. Sadly, it's too easy to believe Condi would say something like this.

He blinded the FBI to terrorism in his puritanical crusade against prostitution and pornography.

13. Hurricanes? We had heard about hurricanes but you must understand
that the information in that briefing was strictly historical in nature, with no indication given that hurricanes were something that could recur in the future.

15. Hate to set you straight Condi....
But FEMA imagined EXACTLY that scenario way back in 2001 when it prepared and submitted a brief to the President.

And I quote from an article from Salon:

"Experts have warned for years that New Orleans is particularly vulnerable to hurricane damage. And as the folks at the Center for American Progress note, the Federal Emergency Management Agency issued a report in early 2001 that identified the three catastrophes most likely to hit the United States: a terrorist attack on New York, an earthquake in San Francisco and a hurricane in New Orleans.

As of this week, FEMA is now two-for-three. That leads us to think that the residents of the city by the Bay might think about scoring some flashlights and bottled water just about now. But it also leads us to wonder what the Bush administration and the Republican-controlled Congress did with the warning that FEMA provided."

At least Bushco cannot claim they weren't "really" warned about Katrina
and get away with it.

At least I HOPE they can't!

Don't they get briefed on scenarios like this?

"Nobody imagined" 9/11 would be possible, either, according to Condi.

28. This is copied from a post from patsified:
Bushit was going on advice from Condiliar. She said that the weather forecast -- "Katrina determined to strike Gulf coast" -- was just a historical piece of information. If only they could have imagined that Katrina was really going to strike, if they only could have had the exact coordinates, I'm sure that * would have done everything in his power to prepare for it.

***************************

I thought it was hysterical and yet a little too accurate :)
