Desperate people do desperate things and my instincts.....
tell me that the lid is about to blow in this country. Not just New Orleans but across the nation, though New Orleans is a microcosm of what will happen.

Incomes are stagnant
No savings
Living paycheck to paycheck
The war in Iraq
Gasoline cost going up like crazy
Heating fuel is going to be out of reach for a lot of people
Real Estate bubble about to burst
Bankrupt nation

I hope I'm wrong but I would be surprised if we get to 2006 before the blow and the government does not have anything but force to stop it.

2. I believe you are right. The rich have milked this country like cash cow,
they poisoned us with their pesticides and we have one of the highest levels of cancer on the planet. Industries have exploited workers and now are finding there are cheaper and more plentiful natural resources elsewhere in the world to exploit. Our only hope is that the working poor gets fed up before all is gone and demand the government inforce a wealth tax as a recovery mechanism for all the benefits large businesses received at the expense of 99% of the population and for protection services provided by the US government... or the working poor have a revolution..

3. Actually I think a "Wealth Tax' would be about the only.....
thing that might stem the rioting that is about to take place.
It would be a modern day "Tar and Feather" approach.

4. I think you're right.
I don't necessarily believe all of the news reports, but if what they are saying is true and there are armed gangs roaming the streets and increased violence in NOLA, it sounds like a peasant revolt is happening.

The powers that be shouldn't be surprised. What do they expect when they allowed a high poverty rate to continue and left thousands of people in the midst of a massive hurricane, fearing for their lives. The roosters may be coming home to roost. Thanks *. NOT.

6. The depression has already happened. It's just that.....
the citizens don't realize it yet. In the 20's they didn't have credit cards to max out and put off the inevitable results.
God, after watching what's happening in No I'm in a foul, foul mood.
