The "red cross & Nat Guard" must be in stealth mode.... I don't see them
I see the tireless folks helping people on the roof tops... where is all the other help they talk about?

If they say it...it must be true...right?

2. Wisconsin is helping out....
The agency sent 45 emergency vehicles with 125 Red Cross-trained workers from Wisconsin to northern Florida, southern Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.
Nationwide, it is the "largest single mobilization that we've done for any single natural disaster," said spokesman Bradley Hague.

"I won't be deploying myself for a couple of weeks," said Pattie Kelnhofer of Marshfield, Red Cross emergency services director. "The closer volunteers are, the quicker they can get there."
People from around the area have been calling, looking for loved ones affected by the hurricane, and asking how assistance is needed.

3. I just talked to my husband in Biloxi
He's Bama Guard, and he said there's some MS Guard there too. Don't know where the Guard is in NOLA.

4. The Red Cross is already in charge of TWO HUNDRED shelters
in the area housing aprox FORTY THOUSAND victims, I would suggest they are doing their part as opposed to the federal government.

"There were about 40,000 people in Red Cross shelters, and officials say it could be weeks or months before most of them will be able to return home."

6. Where is the Cable Media and Networks footage of RedCross feeding
all these people. I've been "channel surfing" all day and not seen one Red Cross or Salvation Army team with food and comfort or a report of happy "shelter victims" since this whole horrible Katrina happened.

If you can supply "video" of this many DU'ers would be so glad to hear some good news about this.

Where are they? Is the MSM Supressing all this good work by Red Cross/Salvation Army/ and other groups?

7. Ask your media! Better yet, check out the Red Cross website
Your media isn't covering it because they are focused on other things while the Red Cross is doing their work.

The right-wing meme being put out now is to try and blame the Red Cross, a volunteer organization, to take the heat off bush and, sadly, it seems to have worked with some people.

12. It isnt "right-wing meme" its a truthful observation
The Red Cross,FEMA and other agencies out there are not helping people who really need it.

14. You just DON'T get it, do you
The Red Cross is helping 40,000 people, FORTY THOUSAND people as you sit at your computer and refuse to read or go to their site to actually educate yourself. It IS a right-wing meme, straight off Faux, to try and deflect blame from who truly deserves it, the President of the United States who chose to celebrate a birthday, fund raise for the republicans, pose for a photo-op playing a guitar while people were dying instead of authorizing the government agencies to go in and help.

16. Well maybe with 40,000 their capacity is stretched and they aren't where
the MSM Cables can photograph them, interview them, or show pictures of them handing out food and supplies.

I can't understand why the Right Wing Bush Supporting Media would go out of their way to trash the Red Cross to make Bush look bad, though.

17. They are trying to divert the blame of no help to others like the
Red Cross, etc, so as to divert the blame from bush. The Red Cross is a volunteer organization so they aren't part of the governmental agencies that haven't shown up yet.

18. But, their Gal, Liddy Dole is former head of Red Cross and she's now
my puke Senator who doesn't answer mail from Dems... I believe the current head is a Bush Bot...

So, I can't agree with you that Red Cross isn't "poltical." But, I'm not trashing them...I just haven't seen them...and don't think since CNN keeps advertising their Call Number on screen that they would trash the Red Cross to divert blame. Sorry...just don't buy that.

19. I wasn't referring at all to CNN, I was referring to Faux in terms of
the right wing memes coming out. I did not say the Red Cross was or was not political, I simply stated they are currently running 200 shelters and housing 40,000 people which says to me they are doing their part. Faux has been touting the question 'Where is the Red Cross?'in order to try and blame anyone but bush.

9. Where are the other 800,000 refugees???
You know, the population of NO and vicinity who evacuated last weekend?

If they aren't staying with relatives, they are probably maxing out their credit cards at a motel while being kept on hold waiting for the next available FEMA rep.

What a fiasco!

8. It isn't safe for the Red Cross to set up in the city
They are as close as they can get doing what they can do.
There aren't enough National Guard to make a difference in a city that size.
This is a failure of a national government.
Not the failure of people who can only do the best with very limited resources.

10. ummm...Red Cross was there in WWII and Vietnam.
They weren't "afraid" of setting shop up in dangerous places then.

Maybe their "code" has changed. Maybe they only go in when a "Disaster Site" has been secured..these days.

I don't know...but they aren't my "favored charity" anyway. My Dad said in WWII the Red Cross made you "pay" for help...but the Salvation Army DID help the troops wounded on the ground.

Maybe my Dad was smoking something...maybe what he heard was wrong or misinformed.

But...since he was my dad...I've been very wary of all our "so-called Mainstream Charity Operations. I worry that the money goes where it needs to go...and not in the pockets of their "Big Wig" CEO's.

Thanks for verifying that. I didn't want to post it figuring I'd get flamed too bad. But that's what he said! They sent you a bill..or made you pay up front...

20. ok, this is my take on the whole Red Cross thing...you can not just send i
50 volunteers with a case of drinking water...you'd be mobbed. They need to find a dry, safe place to set up an organized relief station. Maybe these stations are set up...but out of the most devastated areas where the media is focusing. I think that by tomorrow you will be seeing more relief (hopefully).
