How close are we to riot conditions?
There is alot of anger and frustration--from gas prices to this Hurricane SNAFU and the absence of our leaders?
Anyone with half a brain can see what is festering beneath the surface...the rest are just Bush apologists and enablers. Nothing more and nothing less.
They are made of the same scum he is.

1. The air is thick with tension...
and there is a definite absence of leadership.

Considering the leadership, though, that's probably for the better.

8. If they start martial law, it's time to start freeper & fundie hunting.
They better not dare. This is supposed to be a FREE country.

34. There's nothing wrong with owning guns... it's our right!
Besides, if the government starts clamping down, we'll have no choice but to fight back. Ol' TJ would have wanted it that way.

3. In NOLA? People are just trying to survive. Elsewhere, however,
it's like the California foothills after it hasn't rained for six months. All it takes is one lightning strike to set the whole coast aflame.

But, you know there's a reason all those big cops aren't using their riot guns.

Fortunately . . . so far.

I don't think the Bush presidency will survive $5 gas for very long, even aside from all the fuckups in the FEMA plans.

10. Personally, I have a really bad feeling about the near term...
with the Katrina disaster, which affects many, and then gas prices jumping up to $3, $4, $5 a gallon within a matter of days, which affects everyone, plus gas shortages in some areas...people are not happy.

re-elected.

Some of the conditions are similar as far as the poor economy for the working class...but, now the GOP controls the voting machines so they don't HAVE to give a flying fuck.

15. My son just predicted that Bush would shut down my favorite website
And show nothing but his speeches on tv (except for on the cartoon channel). He gave an exact date for when this will occur, but I won't repeat it here. He said that Bush is evil and wants to take over the world. I believe the kid has a gift.

22. We can handle this
First people need to realize that we are on our own and we need to do everything we can to help each other. NY did during 9-11. The south has been through many hurricanes before. What we need right now is to get our acts together and do everything we can to help each right now. Plus there is a lot we can do to cut back so that there will be enough resources for the things we really need.

Now is the time for figuring out how to get through this. We don't need to try to freak other people out by feeding the monsters.

35. That's what makes this one so different. The dread and anomie.
People aren't treating this as a normal disaster, so it won't end up as just another restoration of order story on the news later in the week.

The monster has come. I can feel it looming up, so can a lot of us. I've even seen hints of it in network news coverage of the hurricane and its effects on the survivors.

Fortunately, it's not racial like the '60s, even though the media has been trying to make it into a bad, black looting boogie man story. I don't even think its a Blue-Red thing. More like we've all come to realize that Bush is truly brain dead and his Cabinet is filled with fascistic, theiving creeps.

You're right, we'll get through this -- but the people need to rise and take back the seat of Government, by physical occupation, if necessary.

This is going to continue to grow until 09/24. Then all hell is going to break loose in DC. But, in the end, we'll have our country back. Just wait and see.

...think long and hard what will happen if rioting breaks out in New Orleans or elsewhere in the current conditions. Things could get real ugly, especially considering the racial undercurrents.
