Time to make *good* use of eminent domain--make refugee camps

All the up-for-sale, closed down department stores, malls, hospitals, ANY large buildings or warehouses...feds need to scoop them up and transport the survivors to them. We have an Ultimate Electronic store that is empty. Clear out the shelves/stuff and it could become a refugee "camp".

This next option is kinda extreme but we all will be sacrificing in the months to come (gas, food prices, etc...)--cancel the NFL season and use all the football stadiums around the country as camps.

1. I can think of a few places here in town for that.

And I know of an old hospital that is only partially used for office space in another town. I also know of about 3 unused department stores that would be able to hold. And there is a unused school around here that could help.
We could take a few.

4. Shouldn't be that hard for FEMA to find such places...

Call any of the realtors that deal with these businesses and get a list of available space..bus the survivors to the locations. Seems like it would be much less chaotic to have lot of smaller "communities" in these empty buildings around the country than it would be to try and have 20,000 people under one Astrodome (or other "dome"). Especially since their displacement is not going to be resolved in a few days or weeks--it could take the rest of the year.

5. Sending them into smaller communities would be easier to handle.

It would be much easier to apply for and deliver aid. And I know that many here on DU do make fun of churches, but the local churches in smaller communities would gladly help out (the real churches that truly care, that it). Some small towns would be glad for the influx of a hundred or so new people. So many small towns are now dying out. I can see where some of the towns would begin to offer actual housing and would assist in finding jobs if they would decide to settle there. They complain of dying out because all the young leave-for some this might actually be seen as a second chance that they would gladly snatch up.

Although a good idea, it would not give chimp a chance to say; "Lets get back to normal"
