Wish I had bookmarked the article but there was at least one expert, pre-storm, that used this phrase/warning.
Just thinking about the aftermath of this disaster is enough to make me want to cry---how many newborns/babies will die from this? They get dehyrdated and succumb to illnesses MUCH quicker than adults...yet all the local hospitals are shutting down. Pregnant women can't go very long under these conditions before they will miscarry. How will they get pre-natal care as they are shuffled to other make-shift communities?
Will insurance companies still honor health care policies for **all** the survivors (seeing as how their workplace are most likely destroyed, never to re-open)?
College students who had planned to attend universities in the affected areas---their futures have been drastically changed...where will they go? If they had scholarships to these schools, will other colleges "accept" the $$ and the students. Think of how bright they thought their future was just a few days ago--all destroyed, leaving them in limbo on when/if they will get to continue their education.
Will our nation, as a whole, step up to the plate and make the necessary sacrifices to get everyone through this?
