Arnold groped women - LA Times
Edited on Thu Oct-02-03 07:53 AM by Woodstock
I didn't see a thread devoted to this. I wonder how many Democrats know they are about to vote a sexist pig into office, and if so, why they bother to call themselves Democrats. As for the holier than thou Republicans who are voting for him, what a sham. Bill Clinton, a Rhodes scholar with years of experience governing, one of the most talented politicians in our time, and eminently qualified for the job, was roasted over the coals for a consensual relationship. But a guy with no qualifications other than bodybuilding and bad acting gets a free pass - and a vote? - despite a pattern of sexism and disdain for women. If the holding her head in the toilet story didn't bother these people, what will? And earth to male Arnold supporters - the way someone treats women is a pretty good indicator of how he will treat you eventually. You're not always going to have something he needs - a vote, and when that happens, watch out. Hopefully this link gets passed around to Californians:

This link talks about the story, anyone can see it:
http://cnn.netscape.cnn.com/news/story.jsp?floc=FF-RTO-rontz&idq=/ff/story/0002%2F20031002%2F053822275.htm&sc=rontz&photoid=20031001SC104

This is the actual LA Times story, the link requires LA Time registration (that a lot of Californians probably have):

Six women who came into contact with Arnold Schwarzenegger on movie sets, in studio offices and in other settings over the last three decades say he touched them in a sexual manner without their consent.

In interviews with The Times, three of the women described their surprise and discomfort when Schwarzenegger grabbed their breasts. A fourth said he reached under her skirt and gripped her buttocks.

A fifth woman said Schwarzenegger groped her and tried to remove her bathing suit in a hotel elevator. A sixth said Schwarzenegger pulled her onto his lap and asked whether a certain sexual act had ever been performed on her.

According to the women's accounts, one of the incidents occurred in the 1970s, two in the 1980s, two in the 1990s and one in 2000...

7. No, I don't think they are conservative
But there was just so much out there to investigate. He has made no secret of his behavior. The head in the toilet bowl remarks were quite recent, too.

8. I don't care what Arnold did last century...
however, the 'pubs have set a new standard, thanks to their continued fingering of Clinton for his supposed sexual misdeeds. According to this new standard, anything Arnold did in the '70's is fair game.

9. IT wasn't last century

Three of the documented ones were within the past few years. The head in the toilet bowl remark was this year. And the way he implied he wanted to do the same with Arianna Huffington was just last week. Where do you cut off sexism? If it's, say, during the last year, it's something to be worried about, but the last 5 years, it's not?

Clinton likes having sex. Arnold is sexist. DIFFERENT THINGS. This is different from Clinton - Clinton respects women. There is very little of Arnold's record to show that he respects women. There was never this blantant sexism from Clinton - he approached women he wanted to have a consensual relationship with. Arnold is just treating random women like pieces of meat. Quite a difference.

11. He was getting off on the idea of ramming the head of a woman
Edited on Thu Oct-02-03 08:16 AM by Woodstock
albeit a female robot - down a toilet in his latest Terminator movie. They talked him out of doing it. Then in the debate, he was bullying Arianna by talking over her and interrupting her, and he said he has a role for her in his next movie.

His quote:

"'As we were rehearsing, I saw this toilet bowl,' says Schwarzenegger, an impish smile crossing his face. 'How many times do you get away with this – to take a woman, grab her upside down, and bury her face in a toilet bowl? I wanted to have something floating in there,' he adds. Apparently, he was vetoed. 'They thought it was my typical Schwarzenegger overboard,' he says. 'The thing is, you can do it, because in the end, I didn't do it to a woman – she's a machine! We could get away with it without being crucified by who-knows-what group.'"

15. Big difference between Clinton and Arnold.
Clinton's actions involved consenting adults. Arnold was sexually assaulting women. Big difference.

12. It would be a very sad state of affairs if
making racist comments disqualifies you from being a talking head on ESPN, but being a sexist and a harasser (assuming allegations are true) is insufficient to disqualify you from being the Governor of California. (Even more sad would be that neither disqualifies you from either job).

14. Something to Fire Back at the FREEPs
I don't know how many of us have heard the epithet of "horndog" tied onto former president Clinton, but this is yet another example of right-wing "coservative" double-think and double standards at work.

The next time the FREEPs mention Senator Kennedy's behavior at Chappaquiddick, mention Bill Janklow. The next time they mention Senator Byrd's pre-World War II Klan membership in the KKK, bring up the Council of Conseravtive Citizens, the next time the FREEPs again try to pose as the guardians of "old time morality", bring up Arnie.

17. Anyone in CA know if this is getting an echo in other news outlets?
Otherwise, it's not going to make much of a difference.
