Today on DU, particularly today. I have had a hard time distinguishing fact from fiction.

It appears that DU has been infiltrated today. ( if ya know what I mean ) :hi:

Anyway, can someone CONFIRM the gas rationing in Georgia? Will it spread? Are the gas prices just going to go up and up? Can or will we run short?

Should we be worried or is this all bullshit?

are posting signs that they are out of gas. Those that have gas, have really long lines. I also saw on the news where gas in Atlanta is over $5.00 per gallon.

4. I heard on democracy now that the two gas rigs

that georgia get their gas from are out. They will run out of gas in a couple of days. That's why people there panicked. Unless I heard wrong.

The governor has issued a state of emergency for gas. If the station has gas they can NOT raise the price. If you find price gouging, such as $5.00/gallon, you are too call the Consumer Affairs office of the Governors office. Current news is that gas will be flowing again by the weekend. The pipeline company that supplies Georgia has stated that they will be back up and running until then.

People panicking are causing more of a problem. The news has reported that if you have more then a half a tank we will have gas before you run out.

Yes, some stations have run out of gas.

I am not a supporter of the current Governor, and I am working to have his democratic opponent elected next year, but I do agree that people going off on a wild hair panic spree are not helping anything. Let's concentrate on the Gulf Coast and what we can do for them.

8. This is a matter of pure economics in my opinion

People are scared of how high the prices are going to go. Everyone runs out and gets gas on the same day. They want to get in while the getting is good (if that's what you can call it).

Then the gas stations run out of gas more quickly than scheduled for then we have shortages.

What a frickin circle.

Then throw in the real shortage of the refineries not being able to refine and we got a real problem.

10. SIgnificant price increases in north metro Atlanta

Driving home from Alpharetta to Duluth around 4PM, I noticed prices were up at least 20 cents from 6AM, and the stations that had raised prices the least had long lines. The two major pipelines that feed Atlanta are down at the moment -- at least one of them is expected to be up by the weekend.

Most stations were at $2.79 -- the highest I saw was $3.09 at a Citgo. From what I've read here, prices have gone up even more in the last 3 hours. FWIW, Governor Perdue has made a speech about it. No official rationing, but I've read that some stations are imposing a 10-gallon limit.

Please report the price gouging to the Governor's office. We can not let them take advantage of this situation. Gas should be no more the $3.00 - $3.50 a gallon in Georgia. And if they were less before the Governor's announcement then they should be closer to $2.89. They are not allowed to raise their prices as of this afternoon.

15. I spoke to a friend

today, who's father owns 1 of 2 distribution channels in my area.

According to her, they are out of supply, and they can't get any from the pipeline. Supposedly there is more coming in from the west coast and midwest in the next few days...

They are already rationing at the wholesale level, no idea if they will at the retail level (but suspect they will).

It has been implied in these posts that there are "infiltrators." IF you were referring to me because I am trying to NOT encourage panic, then you are mistaken. I live in the state of Georgia, I am just as concerned as everyone else. I am formerly from South Alabama, and lived through Hurricane Camille and Fredrick. I saw panic then as well. It does nothing to help the community or the person in panic mode.

22. Hubby just heard that the east coast has 21 days of gas if there

is no intervention, rationing, etc. Also, that figure is without hoarding figured in. We've been discussing how we're going to get to work and get the kids to school. This was on a TV broadcast, but he wasn't sure whether it was CNN or what. It was an energy meeting.
