heads-up: Rush giving live statement NOW
on my local EIB network, he's speaking to AIB or something like that, association of broadcasters--sorry, I don't get cable but was eavesdropping on my local wingnut radio station to hear what they were saying

2. The radio DJ here just said...
He thinks Rush 'fell on the sword' to keep Treasongate out of the headlines today. I agree.

10. that's an especially lame conspiracy
Rush might be a suck-up but he wouldn't end it all to blow up one news cycle. It can seem that way on the internet, but life goes on without regard to our incisive analysis.

So who do you suppose gave this story to the Kerry campaign?

4. so far: summarizing his start in broadcasting
just wanted to be in radio, to "attract largest audience I could"
could be myself "without a lot of coaching sessions"
indirectly patting self on back for growth of (RW) radio/TV--"radio has become very powerful" over last 15 yrs.--Al Gore et al. "think they don't have a channel of their own" (WTF?)--radio "relevant, powerful, taken seriously"--"scrutiny on radio like there never has been"--basically: have a responsibility to respect power of radio--

9. Cute
(whipping out the old Rush/English - English/Rush dictionary)

Rush: "I just wanted to be in radio, to attract largest audience I could"

English: "I am high right now. I am taking drugs."

Rush: "I just want to be myself without a lot of coaching sessions"

English: "Black men are too dumb to be quarterbacks."

Rush: "There is scrutiny on radio like there never has been before"

English: If I start to eat all this crow right now, I'll get fat again. Please love me, mommy.

12. Too funny!
his driving ambition is about MONEY - enough to keep himself high. He does not give a hoot about his audience or what he says - as long as he keeps himself employed.

5. must understand our role in what is happening in world around us
also "that audience is yours"--no pictures, talk format, so active participation on part of listener, profound bond betw commentator, audience--this can be used well, or misused--greater the self-respect we have, in terms of actual communication sense, greater ability to inform the public

so far, hype of power of radio and how peoples' reality is shaped by it--

"liberals think they've lost control of media because of radio"

"starting their own liberal network. . . . this is astounding to me! . . . actually think they are trailing us in this"

HA HA he's gone off on a rant about the "LIBERAL MEDIA"

8. dissing idea of "starting at the top and working down"
re creation of a "liberal station"--"trying to be on par with us from Day One"--"let em come, fascinating to watch, have no understanding of the relationship with audience"--people will choose who they want, this will cement our audience (implying that of course the people will choose "us" over "them")

rambling again about "dawning" of radio, its "power to move product"

14. Rush the Drug Addict?
I saw this headline on the way to work that was saying Rush Limbaugh was rumored to be a prescription drug addict and under investigation, i think it was the Daily News (NY).

17. BWAHAHAHAHA! Local station just turned him off!!

announcer said (paraphrase), well, that was Rush Limbaugh speaking live to the Natl Assn of Broadcasters, well he was kind of getting into the broadcasting nuts & bolts--some listeners might find this interesting but we'll keep monitoring to see if he addresses the news about his decision to leave ESPN . . . (I don't think he mentioned the drug thing)
