Faux: Cindy Blames Bush for Katrina
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,168105,00.html

Anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan (search), who was camped outside President Bush's Texas ranch for the past few weeks, says Hurricane Katrina (search) is all President Bush's fault, insisting that the president is " heading to Louisiana to see the devastation that his environmental policies and his killing policies have caused."

7. She's damn right.
I just sent links to three stories to a local black journalist suggesting he do a story on the "collateral damage" to poor/black
residents as a result of Katrina and the Iraq War.

Here are the links:

8. No, she's not...
Bush and his environmental policies are not to blame for a hurricane.
Faux news seems to realize that they can her to say some pretty irrational things- which they can use to discredit her and the movement around her- face it, some of the quotes that they've gotten out of her have sounded kind of nutty...she's a distraught and angry mother, not a professional public speaker.
I'm not defending * or faux news- but just because cindy sheehan is making a stand, it's no reason for those of us on the left to treat every word out of her mouth like it was coming from the Burning Bush or something...she's only human.

11. He has done nothing to halt global warming
and many scientists think the upsurge in hurricane activity is tied to global warming.

15. he did not CAUSE this hurricane.
to say/think so is completely ludicrous, and only serves to make the people who do say come off as irrational.

22. It's clear dequate preparations were not made in advance
Edited on Wed Aug-31-05 08:19 PM by nyhuskyfan
Why are MRE's and water being sent now? Why weren't all emergency supplies ready to go on Sunday, when a Category 5 hurricane was about to hit our coasts? Why weren't all National Guard (the ones still here, anyway) activated and mobilized over the weekend? Why wasn't our president ready to act? Only three Category 5 hurricanes have ever made landfall in the U.S., so this wasn't looking like your run of the mill storm. This was mammoth -- and we should have had all hands on deck and every resource available before it arrived.

If you over-prepare and a lot of this stuff isn't needed, then what's really the harm? If you under-prepare and react too late, people die.

Now saying Bush caused a hurricane is obviously a substantial reach. But saying that his policies contributed to making the devastation worse is spot on.

14. They didn't whip up this hurricane, but they diverted resources
The NG is desperately needed as is the money Junior diverted to his corp. pals. The troops - the LOUISIANA troops - and their trucks and helicopters would have saved many lives by now, but they're in Junior's sandbox in Iraq.

So, yeah, Cindy's right. Faux just didn't bother fully quoting her when she talked about Junior's "killing policies." NOT doing something as a response can make one responsible for the consequences of a natural disaster. Junior did NOT deploy the resources necessary. And he still hasn't. He's a joke. And a morally bankrupt coward.

12. Their broadcasting of this was very 'coincidental', too
Britt Hume was talking to Shepard Smith and quite obviously didn't like how Smith was so angry about the complete lack of relief efforts. He was especially unhappy with Smith when he continued on an on with his outrage over the people being dumped off on the sweltering roads from boats with no food, water, or direction (where to go, etc.) for TWO DAYS. Smith was livid!! (It was a surreal experience watching that character be so genuinely angry at what he was seeing.) Hume was not pleased. But then he got a big ol' smile on his face to announce that the next segment had Cindy blaming Junior for Katrina! Now THAT cheered him up. :puke:
