A sobering thought just came to me
Edited on Wed Aug-31-05 07:44 PM by ewagner
We (or Congress through Bush*) reorganized Homeland Security and combined all the agencies under one command so that disaster relief whether man made (terrorist strike) or natural (hurricanes, earthquakes etc) could be efficiently coordinated.

This hurricane was predicted to hit New Orleans for almost three full days. There was time to prepare. There was time to plan.

And it hit. And it wasn't even the "worst case scenario".

And two days later:

The relief still isn't on the scene.
The City has dissolved into Civil disorder
People are dying
People are still stranded
Dead bodies are still floating in the water
Food and water still isn't reaching the refugees
There's still no plan on where to put everybody.

The point is:

If this is THE NEW HOMELAND SECURITY, it's a miserable failure.

Thank god it wasn't a surprise terrorist attack....

1. I hope the "I remember 9/11" crowd can make that connection.....
If Bush can't protect you from a hurricane visible and predicted for days,
how well do you think he'll protect you from terrorists?

2. Bush said he was going to run the country like it was a business,
and we all know how miserably he failed at his businesses. He ran them into the ground and he is Hell bent on running our country into the ground. Time to get rid of this CEO.

15. He has been HORRIBLE in interviews today
In the first he kept justifying the job they were doing when he was being told how the stranded people out of food and water felt. (They were doing a good job, people often have to wait 5 or 6 days but those people were wrong, they were already in the state)

In the next interview he talked about going with Jeb to see tsunami and little did he know that "I would have to deal with this" and "I" also have these other states and "I" have this big job, so hard.

Shut up! Are we to feel bad for him. He doesn't have the problem, the people he is not helping does.

(I am assuming he is the same man, maybe there are multiple heads or directors of FEMA? But he was an ass)

9. Another sobering thought...
There are millions of people now stranded. Many of them (upwards of 10,000) are being packed into sports arenas. Flu season is almost upon us, with WHO predicting an outbreak of the deadliest Bird Flu the have ever seen. How long will it be until these people start dropping? Pestilence begets plagues. With Typhoid, Cholera, and West Nile added to the list, how long do you think all of these dispaced people can last? I predict a serious outbreak this winter, with many not seeing the spring.

11. They're questioning Katrina's librarian to see what books it checked out.
Bush will soon tie Iraq and Al Queda to the hurricane.

This is Homeland Security. Watch which way the profits flow.

14. Immense failure of the leadership to secure the homeland.
Could the terrorists have possibly wreaked more devastation than this failure by the DHS?

Great post, ew.

24. He's failed AGAIN!!
Like everything else in this mis-administration we have more failure! The chimp's homeland security has failed, his stupid war on terror has failed/is failing (where the fuck is osama and why are we in Iraq??) and the economy has tanked and this week even more people are dying. All because one little chimp has a daddy issue among other issues!!!

The chimp: a complete and total pile of failing crap.
