Question: Are we (people who are left of center) the only ones annoyed
with Bush's conduct during the course of this tragedy: the jocularity in his Arizona speech, the cake eating, the guitar playing, the seeming lack of real concern on his part - or are others starting to feel the same way.

Are the right feeling at least a little let down by his behavior? Are they aware that he had a three day warning to prepare the nation for this attack (even though this time, it was an attack of nature, not of terrorists?

2. That's the first I've heard of that! Who did he give the 44% savings to?
Halliburton?

4. And who else did he shortchange, besides New Orleans?!
Edited on Wed Aug-31-05 08:07 PM by lostnfound
We should be looking at the budget in detail to identify what other disaster areas he might have cut funds for, and try to unify the complaints from these various cities into a united call for domestic nation-building instead of foreign nation-invading.

i.e., "Bush failed to protect New Orleans; look what he's done to YOUR city."

the nimrods who voted for this asshole?

Thanks for the link, btw. That was very helpful.

16. Thanks for the thread, but I think you are deviating from my original
question which is: Is it sinking into the skulls of the right wingers how incompetent and embarrassing this man and his actions are? Or are we the only ones who can see through this sham?

"Rebublican and Conservative" friends who have seen the light. Haven't come around to the light yet but are turning their backs on the dark side.

3. Narcissitic Personality Disorder: see the DSM IV: sez the doctor
coming full circle. When he crashes, as narcissits sometimes do, it will not be a pretty site. You will see a man propper up by others even more than you have already seen. Get that man away from that red button.

9. The impression I get about Bush Supporters,
is that no matter how callow and incompetent the man is , it doesn't matter. The rapture is coming, they've been good, so they are "saved". When the wagon called the USA goes over the cliff, all the better. They'll be driving their big fancy SUV up to heaven.

10. I don't think we are, not by a long shot.
I sense some real frustration with the Boy King Impostor's response. I forced myself to listen to him on CNN last night, as much as I haven't been able to even look at him for months, and couldn't believe what I heard. What canned, insincere bullshit. "This was a terrible storm. A terrible storm that hit with velocity (how'd they get him to read that word from the teleprompter?) all along the Gulf coast (does he even know where that is)?

Yeah, really, a "terrible storm." No shit, president Sherlock. A stomr the likes of which we haven't seen in over a hundred years, that caused thousands of deaths, the destruction of an entire city and devastating destruction all along the coast, tens of thousands of refugees, (something this country has almost never seen before), tens of thousands without food, water, electricity, any means of communication or transportation, many with literally no place to go at all, can, indeed, be called a "terrible storm that hit with velocity." :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes:

I think people may finally begin to see just what a bumbling, heartless, totally clueless, embarassing idiotic disgrace he really, truly is. And where in the fuck was he when it first was happening? He practically had to be dragged away from his precious ranch, and yet ANOTHER fucking vacation, even though an entire section of his country was being devastated and hundreds of thousands, if not millions, affected.

25. A change in the air
I have a friend who is RW to the extreme. Avid * supporter, voter, Moral Majority all the way. To the point where after a political discussion between the two of us, we usually don't talk for a year.

He called me Sunday as the Hurricane bore down on the coast.... to tell me he felt very let down. That he made a big mistake. That he had changed his mind on the war. That he was counting the days to the end of term. And his wife is even more pissed. She's always the stronger opinion, so she was even more hardcore pro-shrub.

I was shocked. And that was BEFORE Katrina hit land.

To a lessor extent, I converse with several people, staunch republicans and * supporters. Though they won't come out and say it, they make comments indicating they are on their way to understanding the error of theior ways.

The tide is changing!

15. My FOX loving neighbor didn't know Bush was at a fundraiser
if it is not reported on Fox 50% of this country doesn't know what he's doing

Navigate aroung the web?

Why?

FOX tells them evrything they need to know

They are so intellectually lazy with no sense of curiousity. They have a set of beliefs and merely want them reinforced.

I FORCE myself to watch and listen and read what I consider to be the other side.

I think they would rather chew nails than do something like that

21. "They have a set of beliefs and merely want them reinforced"...
...That pretty much sums it up. And if it runs against those set of beliefs, their minds simply shut down, and blocks out anything contrary to those beliefs. You can see it when talking to them. I call it the "glazed over eye" look.

19. Actually
I think there are two kinds of people annoyed:

-Those that do research and don't take what 'authority' says at face value letting them see past all the bullshit.
-Those that are directly affected by the lack of effort and direction in the policies taken by him

The rest sadly are just either unaware of what's going on, or have such a selfish attitude that they don't care.

It's not just limited to anyone toward the left, though it tends to be easier if you're already skeptical.

20. The writing had been on the wall for not only three days
but over a century before this heart breaking tragedy. Somebody posted an eloquent quotation from Mark Twain that surmised its precarious geological position quite succinctly. I neglected to write it down.

Cuts to FEMA, a rogueish administration that caused the competant people to resign, underfunding to the necessary obvious shoring up of the levies, behaving inappropriately, and not responding at all to this crisis for well over 3 days, is all making my head spin.

I saw a report from '01 earlier on DU, I neglected to bookmark it, but it predicted that this was one of the three possible devastating tragedies that could occur in America. But we had to go trash a foreign land, to steal their oil, instead of beefing up the infrastructure of our homeland.

And now we're short of equipment and personnel to ameliorate this travesty. I am sickened by the sheer injustice and impropriety of this situation.

22. My UPS man who I know pretty well
He's here a couple of times a week dropping of supplies.

I had on my "Meet the Fuckers" t-shirt (it has a pic of dick and shrub smiling and waving and has that slogan at the top) today and he said, "You know, I'm from NO born and raised. I voted for that man and I've never regretted anything more." He seemed pretty PO'd about shrub's PR tour while his city was dying.

He's the only RW person I've talked to about it so far.

She and I both have one. She's a walking billboard in N Texas as am I in Central Texas.

I'll take a pic and send it to you, it's my favorite shirt. I've yet to get a bad comment from anyone when I've wore it. :)

by his increasingly & clearly apparent dis-associative brain malady. you cannot run a government, not this one, on brow-beating alone. he's been a bully puppet from the git-go & his as such usefulness to the right has long since expired  and they are breaking ranks as a result imo
