Are the rising gas prices to blame for lack of public support for NO?

Everyone was so quick to donate to Asia after the tsunami. Yet I'm hearing reports that little assistance has gone to New Orleans.

Is it because Americans have less money because of rising gas prices? Thats what one person told me. She explained that she cannot give because her expensives have gone up. I think thats what angers me the most.

I sent some $$ to the Red Cross this morning, and I know lots of people who are doing the same.

I don't & I did. I strapped myself out giving to the Peace House & had nothing left for this $$ wise. But I've got blood & they need that too. Give what you can.

Although, your post brings up a good point.

After the tsunami, I donated to Oxfam. The next day, my company offered to match donations to Red Cross, but I had already busted my charitable donation budget. So, today I sent an e-mail to the office operations manager asking if we were going to do anything for Katrina, and he said he was in touch with company leadership to find out.

After the tsunami, my company (which has call center operations) donated its facilities (in another office) and had employees donate time to take donations for Red Cross Tsunami Relief. I don't think we can do that now because we are moving into our busy season, but I am hoping they at least do matching donations.

5. I donated and waited ten minutes on the phone with Red Cross

I don't have the funds, but those who are victims, don't have anything. Having to wait so long on the phone was a good sign that they are very busy taking donations.
