Monday is Labour Day. Use this opportunity to network with other people who care about workers.
Post activities in your area in this thread.
In Ottawa there will be a parade and picnic hosted by the Ottawa and District Labour Council (ODLC).
We will be meeting in front of City Hall (intersection: Lisgar and Elgin) at 11:30 am, and marching to McNabb Park (corner of Bronson and Gladstone), where a picnic will be held until 4:00 pm. Food, beverages and entertainment will be provided. People will pass out leaflets along the parade route and march to show support for the victories won by working men and women though the labour movement!
A little history
Today we take paid holidays, safe work places, medical care, unemployment insurance, fair hours, union wages and "the weekend" for granted. But how many of these advances would have happened if it were not for the long-forgotten heroes who fought so hard to make unions, and Labour Day, a reality in the first place?http://www.nupge.ca/news_2003/n01se03a.htmSo, what are you doing on Monday?
