I know the Canadian government has offered help
for the flood victims in LA etc. However, I don't know if the U.S. government has accepted. We do have an emergency response team (that was sent to the tsunami victims) that can set up water purification stations, etc. But, through rumour alone, I have heard that the U.S. has refused all foreign intervention/help. Is this true? BTW, the emerg. response team is part of our Armed Forces/peacekeeping units. It calls upon the best and the brightest (i.e. M.D.s, nurses, EMTs).

1. Well I thank you, northern neighbors. I hope ** isn't too proud to
take you up on your offer.

2. The MSM won't even acknowledge offers of foreign help.
Seriously, CNN is posting emails stating that nobody has said word as if that were the case.

Given that, how would we know if any has been accepted?

4. Maybe check out cbc.ca
I won't go there because there is a lock-out. I am, after all, a socialist <g>. But that shouldn't stop you.

5. Yes, I know....I believe it.
France, Russia, Venezuela, to name a few others.

And thank you for your people's offer.

3. I hope this isn't a stupid question, but
can't states independently accept aid? Isn't it up to the governors rather than * ?

6. Somehow I think the border people would have to approve
transports of heavy equipment. Guess how long THAT would take with Homeland Security?

10. You're probably right
however, they could go under diplomatic immunity, as agents of a friendly government. There was no problem with them (the emerg. team) going to Indonesia. IIRC they went under the Canadian flag, not UN or NATO.

With regards to the question whether the state could okay the help, the offer was made federal government to federal government, so protocal might dictate that the U.S. feds would have to approve. Plus, PM the PM is a big *ush-licker. Heaven forfend that he upset bush the younger.:sarcasm:

7. Yup - we'll help out in any way we can. And I support any measures
and amounts our government offers.

8. I just nearly choked on the wine I'm sipping. Refusing all foreign
aid? Where was this said? It is impossible to believe, although it would help to explain the freepers' claim that nobody ever offers help when the U.S. needs it.

9. Thank You, Canada
More & more, I wish I lived in Canada. America is a total joke & a nightmare. If the neocons don't go down in flames any time soon, I just may find my way up there.

12. Here is a very good article detailing what has been offered, what
aid is going down already due to the Governor of Louisiana requesting it (note it wasn't bush asking).

Canadian leaders, relief agencies stand by to help U.S. after Katrina

snip

B.C.'s provincial Heavy Urban Search and Rescue team was leaving for Lafaeyette, La. on Wednesday.

The state's goveror's office had requested help from the team, Solicitor General John Les said.

"We're the first non-U.S.-based team to be requested," Les said. "They're going to be helping as many people as they can."

The 45-person Vancouver-based team is trained in urban disaster relief and had been dispatched to Southeast Asia after the Boxing Day tsunami.

It seems from reading this article, there is lots of aid available, it just needs bush to ask for it.

13. Excellent article!
Thanks for doing my work. What I found most telling was the last paragraph:
"Officials in McLellan's office said there had been no official request from the U.S. for help."
Well, that just about says it all, doesn't it?

I think that the USians should realise exactly how much Canada does love the U.S. Well, except for that BSE and softwood lumber stuff. But other than that. Love the U.S. Especially North Dakota.
