I think I remember these numbers correctly; I was in such shock I'm not sure
he said 1 million jobs had been added this year
.....4 million since ?????
unemployment now lower that in 70s, 80s, or 90s
is any of this correct--even remotely?????

1. Employment numbers are a shitty metric |
|
and are artificially low because so many are not even looking anymore..

2. They don't count the people who have started their own small businesses |
|
because they were underemployed. Medium sized businesses are gone. Only the big and the small remain. If you now work at Walmart - you are not counted either even though if you have family you will require federal assistance to survive.
They no longer count 18 & 19 year olds in the stats. Stats changed sometime in the mid 1990s. Plust all the national guards and newly hired army, navy, etc..keep the numbers down.
Would be interesting to look more into the numbers.

3. Job growth is barely keeping up with population growth |
|
So, we're not gaining much ground on all the jobs lost over the last 5 years...
Wonder how many more more new unemployment claims will be filed after Katrina, with so many businesses being wiped out or at least shut down indefinitely.
