My mother is a conservative...
I never realized it fully before. But I just got off the phone with her and she blamed the situation on the looters, said they should all be shot.

She also blamed the nation for not being prepared, but then told me I was ridiculous for blaming the Bush administration.

She then told me about a festival she went to this weekend and how it was worth the 5 bucks to gawk at all the old long haired hippies in norcal that had came out for it..

Im speechless.

She is just as bad as my mother in law who said that people who built cities under sea level should expect something like this to happen, que sera.

Fuckity Fuck.

1. You gotta love her she is your MOM, but........
You certainly do not have to agree with her.
Peace, another MOM

4. I love her.. but just am amazed how different we are...
I guess what is just most amazing to me is what comes out when it gets to heart of the matter..

I never would have expected my mom to say this.. in 27 years, I knew she always thought I was a bit over the top in my hatred for this administration...

But I didnt think she was so far over to the dark side deep inside, when faced with the unexplainable.

It's just a hard realization. I dont love her any less.. I just wished for something more.

2. wow.....where has the empathy gone. as we become more of a
nation of god, god from our policitians, god in our schools, god in our judiciary, god being handed out by our chiropractor and christian station in the waiting room........we have walked away from empathy.

i find that ironic

i often see lack of empathy on this board too, just other issues.

where has our ability for empathy gone, i wonder

5. The world is scary, and she is afraid and doesn't understand...
and this is not the time for her to question everything that she believes, else what would be left to her? She'd have to go over to the other side.

The ones who get angry...they come over to us...the rest are afraid to ask directions when they are lost. Roll up the windows. La-la-la-la-la...

Obviously, this is very hypothetical, but could you imaging the Dems committing such atrocities, and us having to go over to the other side?

6. Maybe she falls asleep to Rush Limbaugh
I know a bright elderly lady who is rabidly right-wing, and I always wondered why, until I found out she falls asleep to right-wing talk radio. If that's the disease, the cure would be to get your mother to listen to Air America instead.

7. She is 45 years old..
Buys toys for all the kids of her employees every year for Christmas.. spends hundreds on every school fundraiser from wrapping paper to magazines.. Would give anyone who asks the shirt off her back.
Last week she hired some 19 year old former gang member who is trying to straighten up his life.. drove him 2 hours to the airport for his training, gave him her cell phone cause he has a little baby at home.. and a couple hundred bucks to keep him going.

I know if she was there, facing it, she would carry those 100 babies out of Tulane on her back one by one through the "toxic sludge"

She is better then this...

sigh

8. Or, suggest she try NPR. (One step at a time!)
Edited on Wed Aug-31-05 11:18 PM by lady lib
One of my dearest friends is a lifelong Republican - smart, sweet, honest - they don't deserve him. Anyway, he called me yesterday and basically told me that he'd seen the light. He finally understood my concerns about the elections and the economy and the terrible path that we're on. I even told him that I had "welcomed" idiot son to El Mirage with the one finger salute, and his reaction was positive (like, yup, he deserves it). So I was curious as to what changed his mind, and it turns out that at some point last year I had mentioned that we listen to NPR. I don't even remember saying it, but he did and he stopped listening to Rush and started listening to NPR every day! That was all it took. He became educated and stopped marinating in the kool-aid. :woohoo:
So now that he's come this far in his thinking, I suggested AAR, rawstory, and DU to complete his conversion.

9. maybe we need a support group like PFLAG
Children
and
Friends
of
Conservatives
and
Republicans

CFCR

An alternative could be to quote Rumsfeld, "Freedom's untidy, and free people are free to make mistakes and commit crimes and do bad things."
