JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- A 2-year-old girl left home alone for 2 1/2 weeks while her mother was in jail has been released from the hospital after being treated for malnutrition and dehydration, officials said Wednesday.

Lee, a Navy petty officer second class who is separated from the 22-year-old mother, said he had been trying to contact her for two weeks and did not learn until Sunday night that she was in jail.

Family and friends gathered at the home where Lee is staying with his daughter. One carried in an ice-cream cake from her car. Another car was loaded with disposable diapers and an infant car seat. Two florist trucks pulled up, dropping off flowers, balloons, a teddy bear and a fruit basket.

2. It's good to see something good
come out of a bad situation like that. I hope the child revors quickly from that nightmare. Why didn't the mother just tell the police her daughter was alone at home?

Also, wasn't there a case recently where a woman was jailed, told the police her infant child was home alone, no one listened, and the poor kid died?
