The cuts in funding, the lack of a National guard...what a fuckup.

3. Wait for the marketing
Republican successes for the past 25 years have been nothing but spinning gold out of shit with symbolism and PR. They're good at it. I wouldn't count them out until they're out.

7. Yep
Corporate dems in Washington too busy collecting money and supporting the war (and CAFTA) to worry about votes in the south.

"You see, science has overcome time and space. Well, Harvey has overcome not only time and space, but any objections."

I actually have two "Harveys" in my garden, one in front and one in back. I have been enthralled by pukas (or pooka) since I was ten years old, I am so happy you are here. ;)

on edit.

And sadly, the corporate dems are not willing to step up to any progressive, populist plate. Let's take them for martinis.

11. True to say. Much to do. George is to blame. The Republicans are shamed.
And that is all truth to tell. I would it were not so. And I hang my head in sorrow. I, almost, have no words.

8. I agree it is a fuck up
But you're in a dream land if you think the white trash will understand much less vote for our party's nuanced positions. Republicans speak in terms they understand; hate gays, hate Arabs, hate poor people, and (wink, wink) "tax cuts for everyone". These idiots aren't even smart enough to figure out those tax cuts are really only for the super rich who give campaign contributions to Republicans.

I'm sure the right wing hate radio jocks will tell them it's all Clinton's fault and these uneducated fuck-tards will buy it.

17. Well said. and thanks for posting my take on it.
I called my parents in Georgia tonight to inquire about our MS & AL relatives. (Good news is that they are all without power, but still have their homes.) Anyway, they wanted to focus on the looting. They were not at all interested in the budget cuts that prevented the levy upgrades last year.

There are good people in the South, but they are outnumbered by dumbfucks.

The MSM especially Faux has been diverting this into more of a "blacks looting story" today than a natural disaster.

18. I think so too.
Now if we can get rid of those religious grifters, it will be great. I mean I know the southerners need their old time religion, but they need to listen to true Christians like Jimmy Carter and not the other jerks.

19. I seriously doubt it
We already know the people in the South vote AGAINST their economic interests. So sure aid may be slower to come but when election day comes the only thing they will remember is

1. Who will help them keep their guns

2. Who will try to protect the fetus

3. Who will promote their faith

4. Who will limit the stem cells

5. Who will bash evolution

6. Who will keep is totally militarized

7. Who will go easy on big tobacco

8. Who will be tough on the poor and disabled

and the list goes on....Then they will pull the lever for the repubs :(

20. Maybe, but we've got to tell them about it. And dont' blame it on
Bush, blame it on the Republican Congress. Bush isn't running in '06, they are.

Tell your friends. Hell, tell your enemies. Tell everybody that the Republican Congress began cutting funds to disaster mitigation in 2001!

So that isn't what many will hear.

They will hear that it is a disaster because of the looters or some other thing.

28. Doesn't change the fundamentals.
Democrats = non-whites, non-Protestants, and people from away.
Republicans = white Protestants, and natives.

The white people who got screwed over will look for their scapegoats much closer to home, I fear, with a massive assist from the -- LOOK, THERE, A LOOTER! -- media.
