I am Mormon and the Mormon Church stresses the importance of being prepared for an emergency, such as Katrina. In case you are unfamiliar with food storage and emergency preparedness, here is a website that is a good start on what we should have just in case, along with other items.

That's a little overwhelming. But I like the site.

Keep in mind these are numbers for 1 year of food storage for one adult.

I have been stocking up on grains and water. Every time I go to the grocery I buy a little extra and put it away. Unfortunately for most people in the Gulf their food would either be washed away or under water at this point.
