My two cents: Rove is not the puppetmaster
Over the past several months, and with increasing frequency lately, I have seen every piece of positive news for the Democrats turned into a Rovian plot. I have seen:

1. Howard Dean is a Rovian plot to get an unelectable man to win the Democratic nomination.

2. Wesley Clark is a Rovian plot to secretly get "one of their own" to win the Democratic nomination.

3. The Rush Limbaugh and Arnold scandals are Rovian plots to distract us from the Traitorgate scandal.

C'mon, folks. Rove is a powerul man and a dangerous political adversary, but he is not the boogeyman. He does not control everything that happens in our country. Hell, the Traitorgate story proves that he has trouble controlling what comes out of his own mouth.

NONE of what has happened lately has been positve for Bush and the GOP. If Rove is pulling the strings, he is completely incompetent. And I DON'T beleive he is incompetent.

Just once I would like to see DU celebrate it's victories, without being made to feel that 25000 DUers are simply being duped.

1. i disagree with this
"C'mon, folks. Rove is a powerul man and a dangerous political adversary, but he is not the boogeyman. He does not control everything that happens in our country. "

read this and then tell me that Rove does not control everything in this country.

2. I read the article
I se no evidence that Rove has control over anyone outside of Bush and the Republican party. In fact, the article specifically says "When Rove gets involved substantively in an issue, reporters treat that as proof the issue has become tainted with politics." That doesn't sound like Rove controls the media, and there is nothing in the article to suggest he is pulling the strings of Democrats.

4. This fear of Rove is insane.
I am more concerned about the behind-the-scenes machinations in my own party than Rove. And I'm not even very concerned about that. Being active, informed, organizing and VOTING are the best antidotes to both of these concerns.

5. True. Rove is not the master puppeteer.
IMO, all the dots stop at Poppy Bush.

6. I wouldn't say he's the mastermind of 'what needs to be done'
Edited on Thu Oct-02-03 10:46 AM by cosmicdot
as it's deemed by the powerbrokers ... he's the "orchestrator" of the dirty tricks to help make it happen ... he does the dirty work ... he's the brains behind the 'we don't care what it takes just do it' ... he doesn't have cocktails with Rupert Murdoch or socialize in the Jackson Stephens circle ... he's an "idea man" ... the pull-the-"W's"-off-the-PC-keyboards and make it look like it was on Bill Clinton's watch (that was just small potato fun for KKKarl) ... he's not 'the leader' ... he's not a natural born 'leader'... had he been a leader in life he wouldn't have resorted to revenge and/or mastered his negative skills so well ... that's why he fell in love with "Watergate" and became an apprentice to the likes of Donald Segretti and Lee Atwater ... he's pond scum ... and, dangerous ... he's psychopathic ...

~imo~

<on edit> I agree with Sinistrous - it's Poppy and The Carlyle Group ... more than just an equity investment firm ... and their cronies who have a multitude of 'covers' in the form of think-tanks, tax-exempt policy organizations, trustees and Board meetings to firm up the infrastruture and help to keep their ship afloat ...
