by the state governors. At least, that's the impression I got from listening to the MS governor earlier. He had calls from various other governors offering National Guard troops.

In other words, the Homeland Security Dept., FEMA and the Pentagon are fucking useless.

It's impossible to know if he already has this planned with "private sector partners" waiting in the wings to clear fill and redevelop the city of N.O. like Halliburton was waiting for Iraq to drop in its lap, or whether this phraseology just reflects his faith that anything new and imposed on the little people for their benefit must be better by nature than what they built spontaneously for themselves over the decades and centuries.

Maybe it means neither of those, but implies that survivors won't be returning to New Orleans, but will join and participate in new communities where they've relocated.

Less than 40% of the 150,000 troops in Iraq are national gaurd. that is like 60,000 troops there are 350,000 and 100,000 ANG in the country.

Also, there are evidently at least 1,000,000 active duty stateside. Why can't we get like 100,000 of them there.

19. The entire AL NG has been activated by our Governor.

My husband has been helping run the effort locally. They have had tons of people sitting and waiting on the word to go. They got it last night (at least to deploy to MS) and my husband said he sent a small group to LA yesterday. They were mainly sent to help with the lawlessness though and not for rescue because the rescuers are being attacked in LA. Rescuers are being carjacked/boatjacked at gunpoint, shot at, etc. Some are staying here in AL because there are entire towns wiped out on our western coast as well.

I'm not sure if they were part of the original group or the new 10,000. I know the people here are doing the best they can. They are working basically 24 hrs. a day, living at the armory or out on the road in the trucks. It has been difficult getting through to some areas because of the massive amount of debris and so many roads completely gone.

The national government should have been preparing sooner because they knew this was going to be bad. One of the problems here was that a large bunch of NG were doing summer camp through this past Sunday and were not at their normal location to prepare. As someone else mentioned earlier, it seems as if most of this is being done by the governors and local efforts. The people in the * administration are completely incompetent! We have not had a real CIC since 2000.

Hopefully, I will hear more about what is going on and I'll try to post it, but I barely get a chance to speak to my husband so I'm not sure what I will find out.
