How do people who rely on their monthly Social Security benefits get them if their mailbox, home, town have been blown away? Not everybody uses direct deposit. Hell, no everybody has a bank account to have it deposited into. What happens to the checks and the people who don't get them this month due to mailboxes being washed away?

1. From what I understand
The post office is just holding all of this mail because it has nowhere to go.
These people will all have to fill out change of address cards to have it forwarded. Until then, it just sits.
Problem is...they don't have addresses.
This is going to be a huge problem.

2. "...gonna be a huge problem" That's what I was afraid of.
In fact, just getting mail at all = huge problem, no roads to move it on down there.

4. Most today have Direct Deposit
And given that banking is national today, most people will be able to access their Social Security checks when the money is deposited into their accounts. If the Account is closed the Government will have to cut a check, but more likely than not the money will be deposited and the recipient get use of the money.

My concern are those people without direct deposits, but these are rare today, even most Welfare Recipients have been given "charge cards" by the state that permits them to draw down their cash and Food stamps at any bank directly from their "account" with the Department of Welfare. Thus while a valid concern, how do people get their government benefit is NOT the problem it was 5-10 years ago.
