Katrina has exposed America's somber little secret & Bushco doesnt like it
The world is getting to see firsthand that the subjects in Bush's kingdom are not the fortunate people everyone thinks we are. They're getting to see that the "Have-Nots" far outnumber the "Haves". They're getting to see that a major portion of our population is oppressed, depressed, and desperate.

People don't loot for the hell of it or because they're necessarily bad people. They loot because they're DESPERATE, and they were desperate BEFORE the storm, too.

THIS ISN'T ABOUT LOOTING, THOUGH. This is about the world seeing that our country is not like what Bushco tries to portray it is. Just under the surface of the skin, amid all the heroism that's going on, Bush's America also reeks of heartbreak, despair, poverty, and sadness....hurricane or no hurricane.

Katrina has exposed us for what we really are...a few Haves, but mostly Have-Nots.

2. All of which points to...
...the monumental immorality of our government and our media.

4. Yeah, that smug weather reporter on CNN
Was talking about how he filled up the tanks in ALL his cars before the gas prices went up-- saved him $35. How kind of him to keep us abreast of his own personal suffering during this time of rejoicing. :sarcasm:

6. It sure does, and it took a devastating hurricane to expose
to the world what living in America is REALLY like for many of our inhabitants. Lots of poverty and depression.

7. And callous disregard for human life.
I have never been more ashamed of my country in whole life. I hope I'm never this ashamed again.

3. Many of the Haves are Have-Nots
Some just don't know it yet. They're just using their Capitol One cards to stay afloat but they're house of cards will come crashing down when the real estate bubble bursts.

5. bingo-- that's the real contrast that's being exposed here....
The property owners who could flee in their SUVs, who are now hunkered down in hotels and shelters to the north clamoring to return to their homes and lives, and the poor and utterly dispossessed, clamoring for a way out, with no place to go.

8. I went through Frances and Jeanne last year
and although there is really no comparison, I do understand the mind-set. A euphoria sets in when the storm has passed.
"I SURVIVED!!!"
After hours of screaming winds, huddling in a corner, "I AM HERE!!!"
The sun comes up, and I am splashing in the puddles like a 3-year old. If there had been a store across the street I probably would have looted it. It was a high like none I have ever felt. The mental thing is unreal.
On the Gulf Coast it is much different, I imagine. Where we had ice, water, food available...they have nothing. No way to get anything but by taking it. It is a matter of mere survival.
You noticed whose neighborhoods were the first underwater? You noticed who were the people going to the dome? Poor, elderly, mostly black..."expendable". But now the "haves" will have to pay the piper as well, as nature knows no income.

9. and the "brilliance" of the NeoCons
...is that they managed to make the 60% of the world hate their primary victims, so few particularly care when we get kicked in the teeth. I just read an English message board that was deeply disturbing...naturally it's just frequented by the English counterpart of the American morons who post on non-American boards when bad things happen abroad, but it's still painful to see such things posted from one's mother country. We always hope that there's a little more sensitivity abroad...I expect that kind from our own knuckle-walkers.

Well, just passed another night of trying to track down lost friends ... sigh. Good night, everyone.
