That is what Jamie McIntyre on CNN just said! WTF? He is emphasizing the lack of communication between everyone that is why more have not been deployed yet. They are standing by waiting for word of where to go???? This is such a fuck up!! Normally cool Jamie looked PISSED!

6. Jeebus. Terrorists must be watching all this unfold...
... and rubbing their filthy hands with glee.

Bush has just proven that we are totally unprepared to deal with disaster -- even when we have a week's warning that it's coming.

:scared:

They just showed row after row of hundreds of people waiting on the streets to be rescued..... this happened on MONDAY and it is now THURSDAY....... the incompetence in getting help to the victims is staggering.

9. From Kansas
our paper this morning, the last line is important.

Bunting, who is Kansas adjutant general and director of Kansas Emergency Management, said the Kansas National Guard could send six UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters and 40 guardsmen; 30 five-ton trucks along with 70 guardsmen; plus medical, command and control, and air traffic control personnel. The number of personnel would depend on requests made but could reach several hundred, he said.

"We've been responding to emergencies for 150 years," Bunting said. "The fact that the people in need are not here in Kansas makes no difference. If our commander in chief wants us to go, we're ready to go."

No official requests have been made for aid from any state.

To put this in perspective, the response to 9/11 required the services of one Type 1 Incident Management Team. There are four deployed to Katrina as of yesterday plus all the other teams listed above.

14. The entire AL NG was activated yesterday except for those in Iraq, etc.
Edited on Thu Sep-01-05 10:01 AM by peacebaby3
My husband has been helping run the effort locally. They have had tons of people sitting and waiting on the word to go. They got it last night (at least to deploy to MS) and my husband said he sent a small group to LA yesterday. They were mainly sent to help with the lawlessness though and not for rescue because the rescuers are being attacked in LA. Some are staying here in AL because there are entire towns wiped out on our western coast as well.

I'm not sure if they were part of the original group or the new 10,000. I know the people here are doing the best they can. They are working basically 24 hrs. a day, living at the armory or out on the road in the trucks. It has been difficult getting through to some areas because of the massive amount of debris and so many roads completely gone.

The government should have been preparing sooner because they knew this was going to be bad. One of the problems here was that a large bunch of NG were doing summer camp through this past Sunday and were not at their normal location to prepare.

I have been a military wife for more than 15 years. My husband has been in for over 19 years (Vet of Iraq, etc.). There is so much BS and red tape in running the military and that goes for all 15 years regardless of who is president, but the last few have absolutely been the worst. I swear I think it is run by a bunch of 3-yr.-olds. In fact, they might be incompetent for even a child of 3. My husband stays frustrated all of the time with the BS. When I hear some of the crap that goes on, it just astounds me. The pure waste of taxpayer $$$'s is ridiculous. Of course, that leaves less for times like this when you need it, but by the time they do things so incompetently, it will cost the people twice as much as it should have.

Ok, I realize I am slightly off subject here and I apologize. I am stepping off my soapbox.

Hopefully, I will hear more about what is going on and I'll try to post it, but I barely get a chance to speak to my husband so I'm not sure what I will find out.

since 2000. Unfortunately, my husband can't say too much publicly (he already pushes the limits) but I can and do!!!
