Half the population was able to evacuate before the storm hit. Isn't that a good thing?

Even though gas is skyrocketing in price, there still is at least one pipeline from the Gulf of Mexico still open.

I'm sure that once the full evacuation of NOLA is complete the National Guard will get hot on the job of painting more and more schools.

Gawd I hate it when the liberal media doesn't report on all the good news eminating from NOLA.

1. also, oil company and home supply stocks are soaring
It's only a matter of time and Halliburton will come to the rescue. Just think how much that is going to help the economy. It'll pull us out of Clinton's recession for sure this time.

4. No kidding! I don't understand it, but I'm happy about it.
It's down about 50 points this morning, but it did the same thing yesterday and wound up in positive territory.

I've been looking at readjusting my 401k, but the market seems to be handling things well.

5. Oooo - This needs to be incorporated into one of those uber patriotic
"If you agree, pass it on-if you don't, delete it" spams that the freepers are always sending around. I've got a few relatives who could use one of those right now.

6. It could be combined with the info on the Do the Math thread from 8/31
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x4533598

We now have 1.2 million people without shelter, food, water or health care.

100,000 blankets are being brought in. (Thank you, mr. president)

4.5 million MREs (meals ready to eat) are being shipped.

WAIT a second. that equals three meals. Period. That will feed this crowd for one day. Assuming the meals get to each and every person (wildly optomistic for that to happen) After that, they starve.

Forget medicine for heart problems, diabetes, infections, etc. Those folks are walking dead, anyway.

10 people sharing a blanket each? (OK, you get it for your two hours, then pass it on)

And water - the most critical issue. Including sanitation, the average american uses something on the order of 27 gallons of water a day. The figures shrub mentioned would not cover 1/10 of the suffering population for half a day.
