Jeff Spellman CNN Producer in NO just reported people dying
at the Superdome and there is nothing anyone can do about it. No services, water, etc. Bodies cannot be removed. Situation going from bad to worse.

Not specific quote, but close.

7. Hiding..like he did after 9-11...
and hanging back like he did for the tsunami..He's waiting for someone to tell him what he should do..

So far he has flown over and said..looks bad..and then relaxed pollution regs on gas that will further enrich his pals, and break the budget for us.. What a guy:eyes:

Edited on Thu Sep-01-05 09:28 AM by Pirate Smile
outside of town. I can't remember if she said there are hundreds or thousands. She said they haven't had water or food for days. It is like a third world country. Everyone has a heartbreaking story - searching for family, a woman holding up a 7 day old baby begging for help saying the baby is dehydrated, a woman yelling that her kid has asthma and needs help.

She said there are just not enough people to help. Mathematically, it is overwhelming. There are not enough people to help all the desperate people.

Where is the water? I just can't understand how they have been so completely incompetent.

39. Because: 1. Shrub still hasn't sent enough personnel there; 2. At least
a dozen foreign countries have offered aid; Shrub hasn't yet allowed them to help.

Shrub had enough notice a full week ago that this hurricane was going to be a monster killer. He should have mobilized all the federal aid necessary a week ago. Instead, he was riding his bike, eating cake, attending fundraisers, spouting insane homilies about Iraq to his kool-aid minions, and swinging his golf club.

22. One reason for death - dehydration - do you think that those who moaned
over Terri not getting water feel equally compassionate?

Does anyone have the voting records of those who supported and fought the money for the levees?

Pardon my bitterness and doubt. In a few months time, we have been given a great big look at values.

Learning a lesson is a blessing. Maybe.

Ask:

Will we go on letting corporations get away with abusing the law and electing leaders who allow them to do it?
Will we go on allowing the government to turn over public lands so that their above and below the ground earth resources and ozone protectors can be turned over to corporations and our leaders who allow it?
Will the stockholders of all those corporations keep on propping up the corporations and profiting from them?

Are our tax dollars being spent the right way. Hell no!

24. Hell comes to Crescent City
The inside of the Superdome is said to smell half like a toilet, half like a garbage pit, with a hint of eau de morgue. The air conditioning broke down within a few hours, there weren't enough sanitary supplies on hand, and a hundred other details were not worked out.

There have been many assaults, a few shootings, at least one suicide, and a couple of rapes, including the rape of a little girl. At mid-day it's as hot as a sauna, and insects have found the place.

It's only marginally better outside, as the hurricane has ushered in a heat wave, the water is putrid, bodies are swelling, and insects are having a very good season, indeed.

There is no leadership. Governor Blanco is over her head in this. But the blundering fool of a president has made a very powerful statement against looting. Period. Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour has done just about the same.

Last I heard, 21,000 National Guard troops, most from the same states that were hit, had been deployed -- by the governors, not the President. One hospital ship is en route. But Bush sprang into action to help the oil companies which have lost precious property.

There are literally a thousand disasters that could happen to anyone, at any time. But from this moment on, we should know that our President will not break even the lightest sweat to help us out. From here on out, we're on our own.

And oh, by the way, NO LOOTING!

38. Of course Blanco is in over her head. This is a NATIONAL Disaster and
requires the full federal government to coordinate the response. One governor CANNOT deal with an emergency of this magnitude. Someone has to declare this a Federal Emergency and get the US Military involved, not just the national guard. This requires military coordination, No state infrastructure could possibly manage this catastrophe.

53. Exactly -- and well said
The leadership needs to come from the top, but the top was too busy with other things to take the time to actually lead.

I personally don't know what's so difficult about leading that Bush doesn't like to do it. He has tens of thousands of people who can advise him about everything that's going on. And there are well-drawn plans for civil disaster intervention -- especially for New Orleans -- that supposedly only require acting on. Yet he refuses to do so.

He's been on a "I don't have a magic wand" and "I can't just snap my fingers" kick lately. What is it with him? I don't know of any ideology that demands inaction in crisis situations. Plenty of right-wingers have also taken notice of this. And while it may seem puzzling to me, it's hundreds of thousands of people in the Gulf Coast who are paying for Bush to act like Brainless Hamlet.

--p!
To be or ... somethin' else. What was the question? I can't just snap my fingers, or I'd be snappin'! Facin' the slings an' arrows of outrageous fortuosity is hard work!

31. It is not even close plus there are thousands who have come to the
Superdome because it is where they were told they can get help. CNN reported that officials said the refugees outside the Dome aren't going to be evacuated to Houston.

I'm sure it is so terrible inside that the first priority is getting them out of there but now it is also surrounded by thousands more desperate for help.

40. Ok. Let's get this straight. The storm came and went on Monday.
The levee broke almost 24 hours later. Many people died. Now people who survived the levee break are dying days after that happened.

The storm was an act of god, or whatever. But all the failures aftewards seems to have a strong human component.
