It does not say...

A poorly regulated mob, being necessary to the chaos of a free State, the right of the people to shoot police officers, shall not be infringed

(edited for clarity)

maybe DU'ers will realise that the descent into lawless chaos isn't something to be ignored.

It started with looting useless crap like jewelry.

next step, bring on the guns and violence and mob rule.

13. Hmm. You are witnessing what happens without government.
We all love to hate it, but there's a reason people invented it.

18. Indeed. Anarchy is yet another poorly conceived utopian notion.
I wish people would finally learn that, due to human nature, no utopia will ever work and any attempts to make one work have resulted in deaths on a catastrophic scale such as Mao or Pol Pot.

24. Oh? Who's doing better here, the gov't or the people?
Anarchism isn't about having no organized systems in place. It's about the superiority of voluntary associations over coercive authority structures.

What I'm seeing in NO is a whole bunch of voluntary associations -- from the Red Cross to us here at DU -- doing pretty well given the limits of our resources, while the government runs around with its head up its ass.

7. Sure it was at the Superdome?
They were trying to arrange for a lifeflight pickup at an exit ramp of I-10. That's well north of the dome, I believe.

Sounds like a mess, though.

19. What you are seeing is anomie or chaos, not anarchy
Anarchism as a social/economic system does have order to it. The word "anarchy" has been bastardized. Mikhail Bakunin, Emma Goldman, etc. were all anarchists (libertarian socialists), but they didn't advocate stealing, pillaging, raping, or murder. Rather, they advocated mutual cooperation among all involved in a way that avoided concentrating decision-making power into the hands of a few. Stealing, raping, etc. is totally anathema to mutual cooperation as a concept. They were anti-state in that they realized the state has historically been the tool of oppression from giving legitimacy to those who would control vital resources for their own interests (price gouging, for example) at the expense of others to imposing things such as slavery and waging war for imperialism.

20. Thank you
Of course, the authoritarian sentiment always falls back on a supposedly atavistic "human nature" which it has, of course, created, the easier to dominate.
