We have a couple of New Orleans locations- I saw looting footage
Very surreal feeling to watch people just picking the place clean. To be honest, I didn't think there would be much left to get after Katrina. Our COO says that now we have documentation for the insurance company. No one seems particularly upset about it, our biggest concern is tracking down our employees down there.

1. So the Companies Themselves are "Not Particularly Upset"
but forces are being diverted from rescue operations to track down looters?

2. No, one executive at one particular company is not particularly upset

I can't speak for other folks, and I have no idea how the rest of upper management will take this; I imagine our CFO will be apolplectic, but he's a panicker by nature. As for the peons who've seen it, folks are pretty non-plussed.

3. It Doesn't Surprise Me
in a disaster, protecting inventory is usually not the most urgent concern.

5. maybe forces were being diverted to stop the shooting.... just maybe...
order had to be restored to ensure safety of those who want to wait til they get evacuated.

Imagine, you survive the flooding but get shot by a freaking vandal.

4. Your COO may be in for a surprise when he discovers you have no coverage..
Because your policy excludes natural disasters and/or the Chief Operating Officer figures out your company SELF INSURES then I presume he will be more worried.

I find it ironic that so many operating people do not have a clue about insurance.

Odds are your company will not collect a dime on the loss either because the insurance company will claim it resulted from a natural disaster, your deductible is more than the loss, or your company self insures this type of loss.
